Story Of Why I Want To Go Home

I’m so excited, Dad gets my leash and says “Shine let’s go to the car!” My favorite! Where are we going? Dog Park? Beach? It’s winter and cold but I love the beach. Will we play ball!! I love to play ball!

We stop at a strange building, lots of dog sounds, lots of noise, I don’t want to go in, but my Dad is taking me so it will be OK, I love my Dad.

Dad talks to a lady and does some writing. When are we going to play ball!??

Dad gives my leash to the lady, and starts to leave. WAIT! Dad! What’s happening? I can see Dad get into the car. Where is he going? He’s my Dad, my best buddy. The lady is nice, and gives me scritches, she pulls the leash towards all the noise and the strange smells. I don’t want to go, it’s too scary, I want to go home.

So much noise, so many dogs, all jumping at the front of their kennels. It all smells strange. It’s so loud. I want to go home…

I’ve been here so long now. When will my Dad come back? I want to go home. There are some nice people, they gave me a bed and I get food every day. But it’s so loud, there are so many other dogs, sometimes they go past my kennel and don’t come back. I’m so lonely, I want to go home…

A new lady comes to my kennel, she is talking to the other lady and she has a leash, maybe she will take me home! I hear her say that the kennels are full, but she has a space, so maybe I’ll be happier where it isn’t so noisy. Yes! She’s talking about home…I want to go home…

We go in the lady’s van, she’s nice and talks to me as she drives, but it doesn’t look like we are going home. I don’t recognize where we are. When she lets me out it isn’t home, it smells a bit like the last place, but it is quieter. But I want to go home…

I see the lady every day. She cleans my kennel, feeds me, talks to me, and she plays ball! I love to play ball. But as she plays her telephone rings and she says, “sorry Shine I have to go”. So I have to go back into the kennel. There are other dogs here but people come and meet them, and I hear them talk about home. That’s what I want! Pick Me! But nobody does. I want to go home…

It must be summer now, it’s hot outside. The lady still plays ball with me sometimes, but it isn’t home. I’m so lonely, I’m so sad. The lady says I’m depressed and that’s why I’ve started to bite my own tail. It hurts but I don’t care, I want to go home. I love people and when people do come I wriggle and give kisses but none of them take me home. I need to go home…

Shine is an 8 year old Shar Pei mix who was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of his own. When that shelter became full he was transferred to a quieter shelter as he had started to become stressed. He shows no aggression towards people, but he has started to self harm and very difficult decisions may have to be made as his quality of life is reducing. He wriggles from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, gives kisses and loves to play ball. The shelter believe he would be best as an only pet as he just wants to be with his person. Older kids that can play ball would be great. He needs out now. Adopters or Fosters please contact Willington Animal Control in CT.
