Little things like this are truly amazing. I'm deaf and a woman who works at a train station I frequent a lot has learnt some BSL so she could say good morning and how are you to me. I cried. Yes I can lip read and so communicate with her that way, but she went out of her way to learn it and will help other deaf travellers too. I'm also a full time wheelchair user and there are some train stations in central london (Thameslink and Elizabeth line) that have raised platforms instead of needing a ramp to get on the train. I cried the first time I used them as for once I could just be like everyone else and board the train without having to find a member of staff, tell them where I'm going, get let on the train and then be met by someone at the other end to be let off. It's the small things that everyone takes for granted that make the biggest difference.

That is lovely, so above and beyond! I work as a cashier and there are a lot of Hispanic customers who don't speak English or speak through their kids. I learned a few pertinent to my job words and wish that my coworkers etc would do the same

I think about this sort of thing when I play a game that allows sub titles. Especially if the dialogue affects game choices. My brother is deaf.

Accessibility gives a feeling of belonging, it means a lot to those of us living with disability. My local supermarkets provide a sensory hour with low lights and no music and it is so comfortable for me as an autistic person that I often get emotional being there from the relief and feeling understood and respected.

To learn more about the importance of consuming good news, we reached out to an expert on the topic, Jonathan Widder, founder of Squirrel News, who was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda. “In most media, negative news prevails, and solutions play a much smaller role than problems, scandals, catastrophes,” Jonathan shared. “In the short term, that attracts readers. But in the long run, many become frustrated by this imbalance.”

“There is a general need to live in a world that makes sense, at least to a certain degree, and not to have the constant feeling that the apocalypse is just around the corner,” the founder went on to explain. “Opposed to this, reports on solutions and progress show that there are many brilliant, problem-solving people out there and that many things are actually working or could work with new ideas and approaches. Thus, reading constructive news not only helps people to make better sense of the world, but it also helps to spread solutions and make the world a better place.”

This made my heart smile so warmly. I hope the airline noticed this flight attendant's kindness and give them an appropriate commendation. On the side note: I haven't flown in a while, is that how narrow the aisles are nowadays? How narrow are the carts now; and how can one walk through there?

Aisle width is regulated (by the US FAA at least) based upon the total seating capacity of the aircraft. In an aircraft with more than 20 seats, at 25" from the floor, the minimum width cannot be less than 20" (and has been so since 1976). https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-14/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-25/subpart-D/subject-group-ECFR88992669bab3b52/section-25.815

It was a similar situation with two friends. They met on a aeroplane, D was incredibly nervous, and M was sitting beside her. M started chatting, and then asked if D would like to hold their hand. It was short flight, and they sat hand in hand the whole way. M provided the 'distracting chatter'. And so started a fantastic friendship.

The 1st time I rode in an airplane, it was a short 3 hour trip in the US in 1988. I was terrified (still am) of heights and I was seated next to the window. The passenger next to me saw that I was anxious (as in, I checked under the seat for flotation device, the overhead for where the oxygen mask was supposed to be per the safety pamphlet, and had positioned the barf bag for easy access) and he talked me through take-off and landing ("look out, not down").

We were also curious about what Jonathan loves the most about being able to share good news with people. “Spreading constructive news on solutions and progress is incredibly rewarding, as it often evokes strong positive emotions in readers,” he told Bored Panda. “Many are very grateful when they find a rare, reliable source that provides an overview on positive developments. Apart from that, it’s also very enriching to deal with promising solutions and groundbreaking changemakers on a daily basis. These people are very inspiring, and they show us how much is possible, how much positive potential there is in the world.”

And when it comes to where the Squirrel News team finds their positive stories, Jonathan says, “Our team scans a wide variety of sources each week and only picks the most relevant news on progress and solutions. We judge stories according to a number of criteria, such as the degree of innovation of a solution, its reach, scalability, credibility, understandability, neglectedness, and others. In the end, we usually narrow it down to ten news articles per issue, so people can focus on the most important and interesting stories.”

It is. My teenage niece and nephew came to live with us a few weeks ago, and it seems their mother not only made life hell for them, she also stopped providing even the staples in their refrigerator. She was too busy providing the basic comforts a parent should provide to her boyfriend and his kid. Grocery shopping these past few weeks was like Christmas shopping for them. Seeing them go in and out of the kitchen and eating the way teens typically eat (a lot) has been a joy I never expected.

“During our work, we come across many touching stories, and some very exciting people have even been guests in our podcast,” Jonathan shared with Bored Panda. “One of them was a former homeless person in the UK who is now pursuing a university degree thanks to a special program. During our conversation, you could feel how happy he was. He had finally found the right place for himself.”

“Also very heartwarming was the story of an American NGO that donates pianos and gives free piano lessons to disadvantaged kids,” the founder continued, noting that he’s a piano player himself as well.

“And then we interviewed an expert from India on open prisons in Rajasthan. Those prisons neither have wardens nor fences, but people still don’t run away, because they have much better conditions than in other prisons. They can see their families during the day. It was impressive to see what a difference the system made to them and how our expert, a young woman, successfully fought to expand the system throughout the whole country.”

it's so strange to know that when I was younger, Iran was actually quite modern and women weren't really restricted. How things can change when a regime comes to place that still thinks a womans flesh and hair is the greatest sin to either show or see and feel lust about. When actually that is exactly why there are so many women raped or sexually assaulted in those same countries. They should teach their sons, brothers and men that a womans body is her own and she is the only one that gets to decide to whom she gives it away and what parts she shows out of her own free will.

Agree with you. Unforunetly some societies seem to govern differently within themselves. Religions and cultures in some of the biggest most "progressive" countries think this and teach it. America for example. I can think of 5 that cover skin and or wear wigs. From Texas to New York and West coast to East coast all in btwn. Some could even look inwards from outside and think cult.

I keep telling myself that my kids (teens) shouldn't suffer because I am suffering. They need me to show them that it's never as bad as it seems. I hug my kids as often as possible and they don't know it's because they are keeping me alive.

I feel you. And I wish you every strength and happiness.I shredded mine (that was a really, really close call). Although I still have some dark days, none have been as dark as that particular time in my life.

Sometimes writing things down - and destroying it, is a GREAT way of processing and move on. People told me this when I felt bad, but I didn't listen. I wish I did. Things may have been different!

Which is lovely. But is he going to do the same tomorrow? He might not remember this conversation, depending how bad the dementia is. They often need to be told the same thing multiple times a day. Had dementia in my family, sometimes it's best not to have that conversation, and just reminisce, or change the subject.

Speaking as a CNA, you’re correct, often it’s better to redirect. However, for this one moment, this one time, he has the comfort of knowing his work is finished. Sure, he’ll forget, but he’ll be at peace for just a moment, and at least that’s something

It looks like they did something like that, there's also this photo to look at for a reminder. I believe it will make a difference. My father had severe dementia before he passed, photos of activities were really helpful for him to connect information. I hope this brings the gentleman some peace.

This is such a bittersweet moment. Reminded me of my grandma, who had dementia. She had her good days and forgetful days. She didn't know who I was, nor her daughter (my mom). RIP grandma.

My grandma had advanced dementia. She had three children- Mum, my aunt and my uncle- but according to her memory, she had two children and thought my aunt was her sister. She also thought my sister and I were still children- we are in our thirties.

Better than one person a friend had to work with in a nursery home. WW II veteran, but from Austria. He was a member of the SS and was rambling about killing all Russians. He also screamed orders at the staff and wanted to send all foreign looking nurses to the concentration camp. Three of them decided enough is enough and with the boss' agreement, they would be the only ones caring for that man. They did their jobs to the best of their abilities, but he hated it and threw multiple tantrums daily. He somehow still managed to live a few years until he was almost one hundred years old.

My great grandma had 10 brothers, lost all older brothers in WW1 and all younger brothers in WW2. She relived the pain of losing them every single day. That were the only memories she had left in her last years.

I worked with a woman who was stuck on the night of the bombing when her mom was killed in WWII. She carried around a doll and asked us all if we'd seen her mom. Over and over. We distracted her with coloring. It's like the highest valence memories are the ones that get stuck. And unfortunately those are usually awful.

My husband's uncle with dementia moved in with us last year. He was in Vietnam. But every single day, many times a day, he thinks his brother is dead. Even of he spends the day with him, within 15 minutes, he comes up to us saying he is dead. He also hides his own cigarettes (he is the only person who smokes.) We find them in his pillowcase, in his socks. Everuwhere.

Lost my amazing father in March 2021. He was a Vietnam veteran and called himself “an old soldier” til the day he died. This meant so much to this man that even if he didn’t remember it the next day in THIS moment right here his life was made complete in his mind. They always say to live in the moment. I guess this is a great reminder of that. Rest in peace to my beautiful dad. I miss him more every day ❤️

We all know doomscrolling can’t be good for us, but sometimes, it’s just so hard to resist. Like that last cocktail when you’re out with friends that you know you’ll regret in the morning, finding ourselves caught in a cycle of consuming depressing content just leaves us feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. The temptation to doomscroll and surround ourselves with negative news never seems to go away, but today, at least for the next few minutes, I urge you pandas to focus on positivity. Because we’ve got some photographic evidence that the world isn’t all bad. In fact, it actually might be pretty nice!

Like taking time out of our days to exercise, sometimes consuming uplifting news takes a bit of effort. You have to go out of your way to find it or have a sharp eye to be able to spot moments of goodness in your day. But I promise, pandas, it’s worth it. According to VicHealth, we as humans evolved to develop a “negativity bias” to keep ourselves safe from predators, so we’re programmed to fixate on negative information and experiences. Nowadays, however, this bias can make it incredibly hard to resist complaining and doomscrolling.

As a mechanic we love these things. Last year I had the joy of working on a kid's power wheel jeep in between "real" jobs. I got it up and running (Replaced battery leads and rewired the motor) I was paid with a lovely drawing of myself holding what is supposed to be a wrench but looks like a...male appendage.

It's important to actively seek out uplifting and positive information, as to not get trapped in negativity and to activate our happy hormones. “All of those happy hormones like dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, they do the opposite [of stress hormones]. They bring your blood pressure down, they improve your mental health and they reduce your chances of some chronic diseases,” VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio says. And when it comes to the benefits that wholesome news can bring us, Rhiannon Whalen-Harris, M.Ed. says that positivity supports brain health.

“When we experience positive emotions, like joy or gratitude, our brains release dopamine and serotonin, which are neurotransmitters associated with feelings of pleasure and well-being,” Whalen-Harris writes for One-Eighty. “So, staying positive can help create a positive feedback loop. And our brains are constantly rewiring themselves in response to our experiences and thoughts – a process known as neuroplasticity. That means when we focus on positive thoughts and experiences, we can actually create new neural pathways that work to reinforce positive patterns of thinking and behavior.”

It was hard at first and I struggled (still get the occasional day of frustration that the world is often inaccessible, especially when it could easily be accessible) but now I have started to record and edit (editing my first 3 videos as I type) videos for my YouTube channel showing people in wheelchairs (and those who aren't) how to do things like board a train, stay in an accessible hotel room, visit tourist attractions etc as a wheelie. I hope it'll help lots of people out

Yeah, same. I don't know why some of us have such a hard time with this. I don't think any of us are meant to go through all of life completely alone all the time.

Not sad! Any day above ground and sober is another chance to have a day that I didn't make anything worse! Even if I have to stay in my closet most of the day. Takes getting used to though.......... but no more paranoia (for the most part :-)

500 days and the courage to ask for help was definitely a game changer. Booze often ends up gasligthing you into thinking it is the only friend you have left, but a lot of people are probably just waiting for you to make the first step.

Positive thinking can improve our mental health, enhance our relationships, increase resilience, boost physical health and promote happiness and well-being. So aside from seeking out heartwarming good news like you’re finding on this list, some additional easy ways to support your positivity are staying connected to family and loved ones, showing gratitude, meditating, eating well, sleeping well, limiting screen time, staying active, and practicing kindness. These actions may seem simple, but they become second nature over time. Start with a few, simple acts of gratitude, and before you know it, those positive thoughts will be flowing like a waterfall!

From the original post: I had a right Hemicolectomy, the risk was I was 93lbs, and was losing blood faster than they could transfuse it. I had a perforation 6 inches to the left of the hepatic flexure of my colon, but they couldn’t see that in a CT scan because I had no fat. I have Crohns, and during Covid I couldnt see my doctor, so I got very bad without knowing how bad until it was too late. I was too thin for them to really help by the time I showed up. I spent a month in the hospital. While there I got shingles and a blood clot. I was released from the hospital with a colostomy bag, shingles, a blood clot, and edema from lack of albumin. I had all of that going on when I went into the OR.

i searched up hemicolectomy and this is what it is: Colectomy is bowel resection of the large bowel. It consists of the surgical removal of any extent of the colon, usually segmental resection. In extreme cases where the entire large intestine is removed, it is called total colectomy, and proctocolectomy denotes that the r****m is included. (source: wikipedia)

One of my first hospital job like 22 years ago, in a small Oregon town, there was a surgeon who was known to take any payment the person could give. He was old school (probably around 65 at the time) and a big, tough looking guy, but had the biggest heart and was unlike any surgeon I have ever known or worked with. He ended up buying land because over the years he had acquired chickens, some apple trees, some sheep, a goat, and a donkey, and needed somewhere for them to live. He also had a room in his house dedicated to homemade crafts and things people made him for payment.

We probably do, the issue isn't just the doctor. It's the cost of the OR, the cost of the medication, the cost of the rest of the surgical staff. Even if a doctor waives their fee it's still hell to get a pro-bono surgery going.

Booker T. Washington wrote of when he was raising funds for Tecumseh. An elderly woman came to him, to donate her six eggs she'd been saving up. She told him that she'd spent her life as a slave, couldn't read, and didn't know much of anything, but she knew what he was doing was something she wanted to help. Six eggs, and they were all that woman had in the world.

I'm a mission worker in Sierra Leone and when I visited the school I built, the headmistress asked me to come to her house, where she presented me with a goat. What a mindblowing gift from someone who lived in a crumbling-walled shack. I so badly wanted to give it to someone who needed it, but it was her gift to me and she meant me to eat it, so I did. Every time I visit the people shower me with fruits and chickens. Bless them all I love them so much. I miss them every day I'm in America.

If you’re naturally a pessimistic person, you might be rolling your eyes at the idea of practicing more positive thinking. But it might incentivize you to know that it can actually give you a longer, healthier life. “A 2018 study published in the Journal of Aging Research found that having a positive mental attitude was linked to decreased mortality over a 35-year period,” Kendra Cherry wrote in an article for Verywell Mind. “People who had a more positive outlook were also more likely to get regular physical exercise, avoid smoking, eat a healthier diet, and get more quality sleep.” Life is incredibly unpredictable, and we can never guarantee how long we’ll be around. But if keeping a cheery attitude increases my likelihood of living a long life, count me in!

One potential reason behind why positive people seem to live longer is that they’re less affected by stress. “Research suggests that having more positive automatic thoughts helps people become more resilient in the face of life's stressful events,” Cherry writes for Verywell Mind. “People who had high levels of positive thinking were more likely to walk away from stressful life events with a higher sense of the meaningfulness of life.” It’s also possible that people with better attitudes live healthier lives in general, as they’re not drawn to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as indulging in too much food or living sedentary lifestyles. There’s nothing wrong with staying home sometimes, but people who are genuinely happy tend to get out and about, even just for a walk and some fresh air.

These look like they were made using Russian piping tips (special tips that make all sorts of crazy cool flowers and designs). They are hard to master to this degree, if that's what they used I'm even more impressed!

To hide behind a fairytalebook that's it's been rewritten so many times and think that you can hate someone because of something in that storybook... that man is just coward, He doesn't have the guts to talk for himself so he hides behind that storybook... the same storybook that will forgive a pedosexual for abusing a child, the same storybook that will forgive teh murderer of your child, the same storybook that will forgive everything and everybody as long as your "repent"... Yeah, I call bs when I see it. The only true thing in this picture is the signs the parents are holding that says they love their son, no matter what.

    Shyla Bouche
    Community Member

Repentance isn't a game or a joke. It isn't just saying, "sorry." Repentance isn't repeating the same sin over and over, or just hanging out sins on the cross like a coat on a rack. Real repentance means coming to terms with the fact that you've done something terrible. You've hurt people, many of them innocent. You've spread darkness rather than light. Repentance is owning what you've done and taking responsibility for it. Repentance is doing the work to change whatever caused you to do wrong. You have to do what you can to make amends, and you have to not do it again. Repentance takes time, sometimes years or even decades. Sometimes it takes a lifetime. It takes introspection, self-awareness, a great deal of humility, and the desire both to better yourself and the world you live in. Repentance is a journey, a great responsibility, horrifying, frightening, and sometimes encouraging. Repentance is a series of small steps that add up to change. Anyone who says that they can do what they want because Jesus will forgive them is lying to you and themselves.

#29 To the parent - so does God. To the other sign holder - “Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye! Matthew 7:1-5 NASB

As a parent with an autistic child about this same age that does something extremely similar, thank you. You have no idea how much your kindness means to him or his parents. To the person that felt this was inappropriate, not everyone is perfect by the worlds standards but one day that kid is gonna do great things and part of it will be due to this person's generosity and kind heart. As much as people prefer to see the world in black and white that's simply not how it is, there's this grey area that allows us to have compassion and use our brains and hearts.

Our neighbor's grandson is autistic and he tends to "act out" on the bus. He loves coming over to our house to "drive" the tractor. He now has a deal with his grandfather, if he behaves on the bus he gets to "drive" the tractor. This school year he has only missed one day of "driving". I call that a success!

Autistic people can experiment sensory particularities / issues. Some can't bear layers of clothes, some can't bear some textures. It could be about temperature (we can feel warm or cold when you don't expect it). We mostly don't experiment sensory stimuli the same way neurotypicals do.

I'm not going to bash you about dog on your lap. You're new to being a doggie daddy and will learn all kinds of things you never thought you would need to know. But please Google dog car seat belts, restraints, car seats, safety harness. There are many, many ways to keep your new family member safe. The reason behind all of them is to keep your dog from being crushed between you and steering wheel or ejected from the vehicle. Also gives them routine to know they are going for a ride.

Genius, unless she ever needs to reverse around that corner! In other news, many years ago my driving examiner told me he couldn’t fail me for not knowing my left from my right (told to turn right from a one way street, so I got into the left hand lane and put in my left indicator!). I’m blaming nerves…

In case you have to..... reverse around... ahem... a corner? Honestly if you can't do that, you can't drive. It's an essential skill for knowing you can handle maneuvering a vehicle. How do you get out of a parking space if you can't reverse and turn at the same time??

My pergola/bench ripped off the wall in a storm last week and tipped over. I managed to get it upright again, but am waiting for a friend to have time to help me put it back on the wall. Sent my dad a picture saying "eek, it fell into the hedge" and he comes back with "I'll fix it when I come." My dad is 85 and lives 1000km from me, and I know for a fact if that thing is not fixed to the wall when he does come to visit (he comes twice a year for a holiday) he's going to be up a ladder... So I better get it done!!!

They said no to my design! Literally would not "let" me do it, he said it just isn't how things are done. I live in a 100 year old house, and in my neighborhood you have to get creative with space. I went to a flat-pack cabinet site instead and got my perfect design.

That is one of the major problems with super-cheap "sciencey things" for children (telescopes, microscopes, etc). They often are such poorly made toys that they end up ruining the interest for the child. For only a little bit more money they can have something useful which fosters the interest instead of killing it. A c**p plastic toy telescope or microscope is $40, where something truly useful for a beginner is only $75. Particularly with microscopes you can get rather deluxe 'student' models used for $30-40

What a phenomenal telescope! This level of interest in astronomy at her age needs to be seriously nurtured. When I was a young girl I was practically obsessed with it and had learned about the subject far beyond my age. I wanted to be an astronomer but was told girls can’t do that. I was the same age as Sally Ride was when she went to space. This little girl could eventually go there too. Dreams can become real!

i remember when i saw saturn's rings (through a newtonian reflector). that was the second thing i looked at. first thing i looked at was the pleiades. absolutely beautiful. By the look of it i would say that the telescope is a 7" (diameter) refractor.

As someone in Houston who was here during Harvey, I can't tell you how much people like this mean to the rest of us. I have friends who were trapped and had to be rescued, friends who completely lost their homes, neighbors right down the street who spent two years trying to rebuild what they lost. The rescuers, the cleanup crews, the construction guys, the neighbors and friends helping each other out with a place to stay and a hot meal, are all heroes in my book.

According to my three-year-old, my wife had a birthday every day for a week. I suppose that explains the grey hair? Also, I just managed to properly celebrate my birthday for the first time since 2019! In order: 2020: lockdown, 2021: lockdown, 2022: not lockdown but I had Covid!

That's rather like me, though I don't have a happy ending. I stopped celebrating my own birthday long ago. Every time I tried, or tried to plan any event, I would invite all my friends, pour my heart and soul into putting together a great event, and then invariably people would then go "Oh hey, I know I said I'd come but I got invited to this other thing the same day, I'm going to that instead." Sends a pretty clear message, that I don't matter.

Mum's family often completely forget her birthday, on Christmas. Dad always made sure we had a special few minutes of the day set aside for her, her birthday cards and her presents. Not big on cake, we would sing happy birthday to her when she got her box of chocolates from the local confectioner.

You should always support your kids no matter what, as a trans male with no parental support I am here to tell you it hurts like heck not being supported by the ones you love most, If your child ever does come out to you as being another gender other than their birth sex, please support them, it means a lot more than you know. Because it is vital for people with diabetes the man who discovered it wanted it to be free for all but the drug makers jacked up the price there is no telling how many died because they couldn’t afford insulin.

Congrats! The hardest part of being an alcoholic is not quitting drinking (hear me out). It's admitting you have a problem with alcohol, that you are an alcoholic, and it's not worth it anymore. You're life doesn't end, it is only beginning. Keep it up, you are not alone!!

A few months ago I was waiting for my husband to grab something from the grocery store. After a few minutes I looked up and realized there were about fifteen of these guys on the hood of my car, all staring intently at me. I nearly peed my pants. They stayed there until he got back and shooed them off, and all I could think of was this is how horror movies usually start.

The gender inclusion here is great, but I really hope it's in men's bathrooms too. I pass as cis and it always takes a lot of jumping through hoops to get pads/tampons at school. I usually end up taking advantage of my choir teacher's stash of period products (he's not afab just a great person)

Had a friend for Singapore in college. The first snow (NE USA) he was outside and couldn't stop talking about how magical it was. After a couple months, he had gotten over the novelty as we had several feet of snow over the semester.

Amazing the things you learn about your parents - one of them, anyway - and some aunts and uncles when you live with a grandparent. My grandmother told me that, when my uncle was young, he had never encountered snow directly - he had seen a lot of pictures. So one day Grandma and her brood were up in the mountains, and they found a big patch of snow. Uncle Ding Dong leaped into it, and half a minute later he was bawling. "Nobody told me it's cold and wet!" And to think he has a PhD now.

when i moved to this town there werent a lot of immigrants. The first winter i noticed an African couple walking through the snow. he was happy as could be, smiling, looking up to the sky with his arms open wide and enjoying the ef out of if. His wife/GF was all wrapped up in scarfs and warm clothes like in a cartoon, you could barely see her face, but the look she had was "please kill me now" It was so funny.

Very carefully monitored miniscule doses of the allergen, slowly increasing over time. Same principle as allergy shots, but only recently developed for peanut allergy.

My nephews had FPIES- (Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome). They were allergic to so many different things (dairy, soy, nuts, red meat, several vegetables and fruits, several grains, etc.). Some who have the condition grow out of the allergies (usually around the age of five or so) while others continue to have issues for much longer amounts of time. Food allergies are really rough!

for those that think 7 is too young, depending on your age, most of us grew up in a time when on every other block there was a public phone, if you had to walk home or ride a bus home and then walk etc you may at some point in your life have to call a parent, you may be waiting to be picked up and something happens, a child having a phone for actual good reasons is a safety thing. People need to remember that phones are phones first, social media and the internet second, good parenting is making sure that their kids have the first.

Maybe that's how they "match up"? They don't have to be a perfect fit, just perfect for each other, flaws and all. 😁🤷

    Can Confirm

    Can Confirm

I've always been told to tell at least two people where I'm going when I'm going alone. Park under street lights. Give updates ASAP. Try to drive separately and make friends with the bartender. Make sure your wait staff knows you're on a date. Etc.

After moving to a new country, becoming single in the process, I started doing this just cause I thought it would be a good idea, no one taught me. It's sad but great to know friends have each others' backs

Sad that a lot of women have to take these measures just to feel safe enough to go on a date. I remember doing this with my friends when I was younger, and oftentimes thinking to myself "I hope this doesn't turn into another stalker situation" 😞

"I’m 30 years old and finally got my hysterectomy today that I have been fighting for for ten years! I’ve never wanted to carry my own child but on top of that had just a very miserable life due to my uterus trying to kill me from the inside. But not anymore so of course I got a cake to celebrate!" <-- from the OP

Having to FIGHT for ten years for a hysterectomy, having to fight (male) doctors for bodily autonomy?! When are doctors going to learn that women are not hysterical beings who cannot think for themselves. We know when something is wrong down there, we know what pain is. She should have had her hysterctomy the first time she asked for it. No woman should be forced to be in so much pain. Women are more than incubators. OUR BODIES ARE OURS TO DECIDE OVER! My excuses for the shouting, but it needs to said.

It depends on the person. At a recent con, there was a proposal at the formal ball. Afterward she said that it was her absolute dream proposal and she couldn't have been happier with it.
