Dogs have wacky thoughts. One moment they can be dozing off on your lap, but the next they decide to squeeze themselves into the sofa as if their life depends on it and won't stop until they disappear between the pillows.

At times, these animals can be idiosyncratic, eccentric, and even ridiculous but their spontaneity is one of the reasons why we love them. Just check out the subreddit r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog. It's full of our best four-legged friends acting out on their weirdest impulses. Like offering food to their favorite toy or showing a cat who's boss by sitting on its face.

Continue scrolling to check out what the members of this wholesome online community have been posting, and fire up earlier Bored Panda publications on the subreddit here, here, and here.

P.S. Don't miss our interview with a representative of the PDSA, the UK’s leading veterinary charity, about dog behavior. You'll find it between the pics!

My cat does the same sometimes. Brings his current toy to his food bowl and keeps it close while eating.

While the pups on this list look like they're having fun, it's a great opportunity to talk about what to look out for when communication with your pet becomes challenging.

"It's important to understand what is normal for your dog so that you can recognize when something is amiss," a PDSA Vet told Bored Panda. "The close and loving relationship that owners have with their dogs means they can be very good at picking up the subtle signs that their dog is unwell, sometimes even without realizing it. Often when a dog is feeling unwell they may withdraw and not want to spend time with their owner or other dogs. In some cases they can yelp in pain, or even growl if you approach them - they're saying 'back off' because something is wrong. You may also see your pet going off their food or being 'picky', not wanting to go out for walks or just not being quite themselves."

The tighter the bond between you and your dog, the more you'll be able to help it should the two of you — God forbid — end up in a marginal situation. “It's wise to get to know your dog's normal respiratory rate. Watch your dog when they're resting or even sleeping (not when they're dreaming though) as any significant changes in your dog's normal respiratory rate and pattern when they're resting could be a sign of underlying illness."

The vet said it's also a good idea to make a mental note of when your companion goes to the toilet. "Noticing your pet's toileting habits may not be the most pleasant pastime, but it tells us a lot about your pet's health. More obvious signs of health problems include vomiting, diarrhea, lameness or labored breathing, all of which indicate that veterinary help should be sought," they added.

The PDSA has an online Pet Health Hub which offers lots of great information and advice about all sorts of conditions and symptoms.

White animals are more prone to being deaf and getting sunburns. We have to put sunblock on the white noses of our horses in summer or they blister. If you have a white animal that doesn't always listen to your commands, test them because they could very well be deaf without you realizing. Seriously! It happens all the time.

Dogs also exhibit some behaviors we tend to misclassify as sweet that can actually lead to problems if not addressed.

Like snoring. "Lots of people find it really funny when their pets are snoring loudly on the sofa and will often video them thinking it's really cute," the PDSA Vet added.

"Unfortunately, loud snoring is often due to health problems, particularly in flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, and Pugs. These types of dogs have a normal amount of tissue packed into a much shorter nose. This means that they often suffer from narrow nostrils, narrow nasal passages, a narrow windpipe, and an overlong soft palate, all of which combine to result in breathing problems, which are made worse when they are asleep and relaxed, hence the snoring. There are even videos of some of these dogs falling asleep while sitting up – they do this because this is the only position they can breathe comfortably in, not because it’s cute! As these breeds have become more popular, many vets are having to do corrective surgery to try and relieve some of these breed-related conditions, to help them live a more comfortable life. If your dog snores, speak to your vet about what they can do to help."

According to the vet, another risk factor for snoring is obesity, as weight gain can lead to even narrower airways. "It's essential to address the issue of excess body weight to help any dogs who are struggling. Not only does being overweight or obese affect a dog's breathing, but it can have long-term health effects for dogs including a reduced lifespan, arthritis, incontinence, and even cancer."

Also, keep in mind that not all funny faces are funny. "I cringe when people laugh at dogs that are giving a 'cheeky smile' baring their teeth and curling their lips. Many owners think it's a happy dog doing a trick, rather than recognizing that the dog is warning people off and could be close to biting!"

It is to many people, but it can be a good way to house break a hard to train dog (start with crate training, move to a single room then up to the house).

People seriously need to stop anthropomorphizing animals. You also don't enjoy eating your own poop (I assume) so stop assuming your dog wouldn't like something just because you wouldn't like it.

💯Spot on Signe, hilarious analogy😹🤣😹 MANY animals eat feces, some would die without eating their parents' as babies. Google about koalas for a graphic video, they don't even wait for it to hit the ground (reminds me of soft serve🍦).

I have a cat who has taken this habit up. When she rubs her nose—-hard—-on the glass, it makes a little squeaking sound. The first time I heard it, I had no idea where the hell it was coming from. Then she did it again, right in front of me. She’s a year and a half old, and just started this about a month ago. Weird.

We had a golden when I was a kid. He loved tennis balls and all, but it was his mom who was famous about it. She had gathered tennis balls around a tennis court. It was a small town and everything around the court was basically woods so players didn't even try much to fetch stray balls. Local newspaper made an article about the dog when they handed about 400 tennis balls to the club.

So I'm guessing that poor dog is overheating. *edit: found video, he's panting and wouldn't get up until they started pulling in the opposite direction (towards home?).

I had a weimaraner that use to run with the deer. A herd use to come up to the walnut grove and Chase would run out to them in the morning and they'd all run as a herd. It probably helped that we was as tall as some of them with his stupid long legs.

Seriously people, downvotes? Woltax is correct, if you can't figure it out and treat it yourself, he needs to see a Vet. Injury, irritation (stings/ sidewalk salt/etc), allergies (food/environment), dermatitis, bacteria, yeast, parasites, "transferred" pain reaction, boredom, anxiety, OCD, and secondary infection are all possible causes for excessive foot licking, chewing, sucking and biting.

Because his owners do not want him on the couch. Their dog, their couch, their decision. I really don't understand why their decision is being questioned.

I cannot believe how a dog being on or off a couch has everyone so wound up! Those who think a dog should be allowed on a velvet couch has never priced one. Those who are unacquainted with the oils on the fur of a water dog are not acquainted with how badly it stains or can smell. Denying a pet access to good furniture is not animal cruelty. Heck, my mom kept us kids off the good couch unless we had company. This is all personal choice. I keep throw blankets down for my small dog and we nap on the couch together. My house. My rules. Same for these folks. Now move on.

I adored my husky, Galen, but the poor thing was as dumb as a box of rocks. We were having septic tank problems and had to raise the lid. Disgusting, very. Not as disgusting as removing a s**t covered husky who willingly jumped in. It took me hours to bathe him, and he howled the whole time. Good thing the grocer had a case of peroxide - for both of us! He also loved to eat huge grove rats. ARGH! I miss that sweet boy.

"Butt or the glands"= anâl glands, and if you don't "express" or empty them, they can become impacted and need vet intervention... especially the male's. That's why it got messy.

I have 4 of these. Two are short haired, like the ones pictured, and two are wire haired. They all have wildly different personalities- the oldest, Toby, is the ringleader in everything naughty, the "Wonder Twins" are a brother and sister same litter, where the girl, Lovie, would rather be strapped to your chest in a baby Bjorn, than walk, Charlie, her brother, LOVES baths and cuddle time and is my "protector", and Mila, the baby (5 months old), she is hilarious- she has set her own bedtime, and will straight up head to her bed, even if the house is full of people. She also tends to "play dead" when laying upside down in your arms. Weirdly enough, she will pull your pant leg until you pick her up just so she can do this. They have a ton of energy, so you def need a lot of space for them. But they're incredibly smart and very teachable.

Zoomies usually are just a happy way of letting off excess energy and simply a way to play with me. I’ve been fortunate that’s all my dogs are doing, just playing. When my dogs are hurting or not feeling well zoomies are the last thing they are doing. “Ranax” above listed a website that maybe could help you, too.

No, he is not on a chain. This is typical behavior for a dog that has been confined for a long time, every for years after the fact. I knew a dog who had been at a rescue shelter for years and nearly a decade later still did her zoomies in small circles.
