Woman Who Lost Half Her Weight After Fiance Dumped Her For Being ‘Too Fat’ Wins Miss Great Britain 2020

Hard work, perseverance, and grit lead to success—and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise! That’s one of the lessons that Jen Atkin, the winner of Miss Great Britain 2020, wants the world to know.
Being crowned Miss Great Britain required huge amounts of willpower and effort. To reach this incredible goal, Jen made healthy living her Guiding Star. She completely overhauled her diet, said ‘goodbye’ to a sedentary lifestyle, and lost over 100 pounds in weight.
“I got to a size 22 and my favorite dress didn’t fit anymore and I knew I had to change!” 26-year-old Jen told Bored Panda about the moment that she knew she had no other choice but to change. “It felt incredible winning Miss Great Britain, I never expected it at all.”
“A few years ago, if someone had told me I’d be Miss Great Britain I’d have never believed it!” Scroll down for the rest of our interview with Jen.

Jen decided enough was enough when she couldn’t fit into her favorite dress and got dumped by her ex-fiance

Jen told us that the difference between her lifestyle a few years ago and now was like night and day. “I eat so much better, I don’t follow a diet but I think about what I eat so much more. I still enjoy meals out but don’t binge like I used to! I go to the gym 5 times a week now and I love it, it’s become a staple part of my life and has helped me in so many ways.”
She’s very active and is constantly on the move

It took her 2 years to go from weighing around 240 pounds to around 125 pounds (that’s about 50 kilograms!). But what do we do if we’d love to follow in Jen’s footsteps but we find ourselves without energy or motivation? Well, Jen told us that it’s all about consistency and small steps.
“My biggest advice would be to take every day as it comes. Imagine where you could be in 3 months time and just keep chipping away! Consistency is key and it’s a lifestyle change!” the aviation administrator from Ulceby told Bored Panda. Now that’s some realistic motivation right there.

Something else that motivated Jen to change herself was being dumped by her ex-fiance because of her weight. This led to a personal crisis and an opportunity to forge a better, faster, stronger future for herself. As it turns out, it was the start of a hard but fulfilling journey.
Jen was named Miss Scunthorpe and became the runner-up for the title of Miss England in 2018. She then took a break from competing in pageants to get married. It’s a story that makes you believe that “happily ever after” isn’t just a fairytale ending.

Jen radically changed her life and the effects are obvious to everyone

The Miss Great Britain contest isn’t just about pageantry, though. The women who participate show real entrepreneurial spirit and work hard to support charities. For example, this year, this event supported the organization Cancer Research UK and Alex’s Wish (which helps treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy), and raised more than 42k pounds for these worthwhile causes.

However, Jen still lets herself eat a tiny bit of junk food every now and then

Eventually, she got married and took a break from competing in pageants

The fact that she got a set of veneers, bought a new nose, and had a boob job had nothing to do with it...right? ...///... It's wonderful that she lost the weight. It's not easy to do and most people make excuses rather than admit that their whole lifestyle has to change permanently to make it work, and she managed it beautifully. ...///... There's a lot more to her than winning a bikini contest, though. I wish she knew that.
Do you relize that when you lose that much weight your boobs take a trip to down truing to see your knees and so does your skin, a boob job might have been a nessicary part of it all. trust me
Veneers are no joke, they are life long and expensive. They need replacing every 2 to 8 years depending on many factors and you can never just go back to normal as the fronts of your teeth get shaved down and s**t..
I have one veneer because of a root canal right in front, where it's obvious, and you are absolutely right. The tooth is shaved down to a sliver, just enough to hold the veneer on the front. Mine has lasted 15 years so far, but they ARE fragile. I can't bite an apple, for example.
And that's b******t, veneers can last over 12 years or more, and you can eat apples ...........what a hater!! @Shawn you say you are a dental assistant? LMAO Porcelain veneers will last 12 to 25 years *face palm* What school let you graduate?
In other words, an expensive vanity.

Sino8r take a look at this YouTube video showing a cartooned procedure to show what it is. I used to be a surgical dental assistant, I'm definitely thinking of veneers. https://youtu.be/cQgpHufB-5k

You're thinking of crowns not veneers
She literally lost the weight to look pretty. No other reason mentioned. That depresses the f*ck outta me. It basically says in order to be attractive don’t be fat.
I thought she was pretty when she was fat too.
Of course you can be attractive for your personality but physical beauty requires hard work like almost everything else in life, i don't understand why people cannot just accept that
It's amazing what someone you love can do to your self worth when they say things like what her fiance did...........it doesn't mean she wasn't pretty already. AND it definitely doesn't mean you or anyone else couldn't be fluffy and pretty ........don't let social media influence you so much !!!!
Well....
She is now a cookie cutter woman. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cP8hpvdgJnA
It's the 'whole lifestyle change' thing. For some people maintaining a socially acceptable weight is basically having a second job. Leaves you little time for anything else. Some people would rather do activities they enjoy or enrich their mind than focus on having a socially acceptable appearance. For the inevitable comments of 'it's not that hard' for some people it is. For some people it requires a minimum of an hour working out everyday, and that requires 2 hours because you still have to get dressed, get there, workout, re-do mornig routine and go back home. Then there's the added expense and time of only ever eating time consuming expensive food. It's a job. People don't have the time, money, or want to spend their lives chasing a socially acceptable ideal. Shaming that is stupid.
I read the first sentence of your comment @AuntMessy and was just like "Wow! what a b***h comment" ......Way to be positive and happy for someone YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!! Her nose looks the same to me and who cares if she got a boob job, I am sure after losing 200+ pounds her boobs were shot to the floor but go on judging.........
I think it looks like she got her teeth whitened. A lot...
Maybe she does know. How do you know that she doesn't know? Ya know? :)
I don't understand woman thingy but, lets enjoy some cup of coffee~
Why do you assume she doesnt know that? Just because she changed few things she didnt like?
Because she's doing pageants to feel good about herself. When I see male pageants I will think about them differently. Women will always be judged strictly on their looks instead of their humor and brain power.
I'm glad she took better care of her health, but it looks like she became obsessed with her appearance.
I don't think it's just obsession when weight can change your entire life: marriage, jobs, how strangers react to you, and of course health. What is obsessive is how mean a lot of people are to anyone who is overweight, but especially to women.
The obsession with her without weight is crazy. She was an unknown. So much for beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Yes! Exactly. Lose weight for health, not vanity.
Why not for both? They aren't mutually exclusive. And it's not vanity when people just want to look good and be treated well by people they meet.
That's what it takes to lose and maintain that kind of weight if it isn't your bodies natural state. So she took it one step further and bought the accessories. Because if you're going to spend all of your time invested in your looks, might as well go all the way. It's like having a classic car hobby, you'll get the correct parts.
Ha ha...a new set of headlights you say?
Yes... its amazing what money can do.....
Money can't take away the kilos!
