We Were On A Tight Budget, So We Brought A Camera And Tripod To Shoot Our Own Wedding Photos While Travelling The World For 3 Years
My wife and I love to travel a lot, 3 years back we decided to get married and take our own pre-wedding photos in different locations around the world. With our tight budget, it is impossible for us to hire a photographer to follow us on our travels. So we decided: why not do it ourselves?
We bought two sets of wedding gown, my wife, Zhu signed up for makeup lessons to do makeup herself, and I bought a decent camera with a few lenses, and most importantly, a tripod.
It took us 3 years to travel around 5 continents: Asia, North America, Oceania, Europe, and Africa. Most of the photos were taken by using tripod and remote, others were taken with a little help of our travel companions along the journey. Photos were shot on different climate and terrain, we created our albums in exotic Islands, world heritage sites, caves, snow, and dessert, even in the Himalayan mountains.
It's pretty challenging to shoot wedding photos ourselves, and we do encounter some difficulties in some of these locations, but most of the time, it's fun. The result might not be as stunning as hiring a professional photographer, but the process of accomplishing these photos together, just the two of us, made these photos precious and memorable to both of us.

I would give this 1000 points if I could. This picture is absolutely breathtaking!!! It is not even the scenery, while it is fabulous in and of it's own right, but the way you two are embracing each other holds and shows the power of your love. The second I saw you I literally felt the power and started to cry with happiness. You two are pretty fantastic! Thank you for sharing your love and the power of your bonded souls with us! I wish we could all be so lucky to experience even a sliver of the beauty you two bring to life.

Wait wait wait what? Sweety...darling...sit down and listen. You weren‘t on a “tight budget” when you can afford traveling around the world for three years, a “decent” camera, tripod, make up lessons, five different wedding dresses etc. etc. You just needed a tiny little sob story to promote your website, am I wrong? People aren’t envious because you took the trip, quite the contrary, I hope you guys had a blast. People are angry because you are a little liar. Now go to your uptown penthouse and think about what you’ve done!
Perfect and exactly what I thought! Not being able to hire a photographer to follow you around the world doesn't mean you have a "tight budget". People on "tight budgets" usually drive a few hours IF they get to go on vacation, not travel the world dragging around multiple wedding dresses. And sorry, but if you spend 3 years taking the photos, they aren't really your "wedding" photos anymore. I'm assuming none of these were taken immediately before, during, or after the actual ceremony?
Load More Replies...Here's where copyediting should come into play - 'We took our wedding photos while travelling around the world' - there is absolutely no need to talk about 'not being able to afford a third person to come along' that's causing a negative reaction here, because the point of the story is that they travelled the world in the span of 3 years, and took wedding photos during that time. Which is awesome, fun and definitely worth talking about - but a budget is irrelevant, because as many have stated, we're talking about travelling for 3 years & solid camera gear. Yes, don't fork out your liver for wedding photos if you can take them like this, but don't make that the focus of the story.
You are a very nice couple, you're beautiful together and you're good photographers. But please, don't tell us you have a tight budget. Having a tight budget means you're not able to travel a lot and you're not able to buy a nice camera, you go with a 'just above cheap' one. I understand that you may use all your budget to travel and that makes you think it is a tight one, but it is not. Having a tight budget is struggling to end the month with enough money to eat until the next income appears on your account.
Photography, locations, poses = Upvote. Fake aw shucks description = Downvote. My suggestion: Next time, be bold and brash AF like, "I'm a Wedding Photographer Used to Making Other Couples Look Beautiful, so When I Got Married, My New Wife and I Indulged in a 3 Year Honeymoon Trying to Make the World's Most Stunning Wedding Album
Oops I see that the photos were pre wedding photos. In that case, I would make the caption: I'M A PROFESSIONAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER USED TO BEING BEHIND THE CAMERA. WHEN I GOT ENGAGED, MY FIANCEE AND I TOOK A THREE YEAR ODYSSEY TO MAKE THE WORLD'S MOST STUNNING PRE-WEDDING PHOTO ALBUM WITH JUST US, A TRIPOD AND A SELF TIMER. Here are just a few of the highlights. It also would be fascinating to see some outtakes and how you set up the tripod, etc.

Why on earth do people think they are an improvement to the landscape. These photos would look a hundred times better without this terribly impoverished couple.
A case of two classic ragamuffins bringing down the scenery.

this is completely humbug. Did you not see what real budget is when you visited India. And Lol, you shot at TajMahal with not a soul to be seen around. I guess you bought all the tickets and hence your budget became TIGHT....
To be fair about that one specific photo, it's possible to get a shot like that even in a semi crowded place. You take many photos of the place while people walk around and then layer them in photoshop and cut out all of the people. It's a lot of work, but possible to make rather crowded places look empty if you know your stuff.
Load More Replies...I have to vomit after this photos and the description. "On a tight budget".... please delete this post its disgusting.
Not sure what to think of this. You’re very fortunate to be able to travel for 3 years without having an income (ie do work). The whole “on a tight budget” thing is in my eyes ridiculous and not very humble but we probably have totally different backgrounds and cultural referenes. But I hope you’re a nice guy and did more out of your trip than took selfies on famous landmarks and that you were respectful to the locals and to the local fauna. (Unlike many of the tourist I’ve encountered destroying the local eco system by their ignorance and travel habits and hated by the locals by their rudeness)
I understand not being able or wanting to spend money for a world-traveling photographer, but saying you're on a "tight budget" is hilarious. People who count pennies for groceries or who can only buy clothes from Good-Will are on a tight budget. Three-years of no *obvious* source of income plus travel expenses is not in the same category.
tight budget is deciding whether you want a wedding, a house, or to travel together. you are not tight at all.
they've changed so much during these years I thought there were different ppl photographed xD
These are all such a beutiful photos and am jealous as I would like to do the same but cannot because I have to earn money for present and future. At least I can still afford to visit nice places from time to time, not 3 years in a row.
Oops, sorry about that reply, my dog sat on my phone!
Load More Replies...Replace "tight budget" with "careful planning" and it would be fine. Hopefully that was what they meant. Kudos to them for planning their dream trip and carrying it out
People are quick to assume these folks are rich because they traveled for 3 years...maybe they sacrificed EVERYTHING else to be able to do this. Maybe they didn't have a traditional wedding and instead saved that money for this trip. Maybe they sold their homes, their vehicles, their belongings. Maybe they held off on having children, or pets, or fancy things and saved for years to be able to do this. Maybe every single penny they had to their names went to making this trip possible. Or maybe they're rich, I don't know, but that's the point. Everyone is always super willing to make assumptions about other people...
Excuse me? Tight budget and three years of traveling? Are you kidding me - and everybody else who simply can't afford such extense travels? I hope your tight budget allows you to go * yourself...
I know a professional photographer is expensive AF, specially if they work with weddings, so, renting one for 3 years would be insane. Still, as so many said, there's no way to be on a tight budget and travel this much, even if they did go home to work and it wasn't 3 full years traveling. They should've said it was simply too expensive, not that they were short on money
Tight Budget but traveled the world for 3 years to take photos??! Like most of the other comments say, what a load of c**p. These are not "wedding photos". This is three full years of self indulgence, holidaying and taking millions of photos of yourselves. Part of me kind of hopes that once you get back to reality and normal lives you get bored of each other and split up so that this whole thing was a waste. Tight budget?! Tight budget!!! It's so incredibly insulting to those of us who actually struggle to get buy. Do you know how much most of us would love to be able to travel to even one of these places?? It's so self indulgent. If you're going to travel, help people and work whilst you do it. And don't whine about having no money. Have some damn respect. Unbelievable.
Man, I wish I had your tight budget. I'm stuck here in Salt Lake City.
I was on a tight budget, when I was making small family wedding and wasn't able to afford wedding dress (didn't even dream of travel). That post just makes me sad and angry, going to downvote.
Last time I was on a tight budget I was eat ramen noodles and putting $10 in my gas tank.
Who cares of price? You guys look so beautiful and so happy together. Thanks for sharing your experience together.
Tight budget and world trip ?! When i say tight budget (what i actually always have) it means that i can not buy a menu at McDonalds and can only afford a single cheeseburger!
I didn't but buy the b******t of 'low budget' but I loved the pics! Inspiring!
Can you people stop ridiculing these people, I'm sure they had some savings or odd jobs or something so they could travel, but were only able to afford one or the other so they chose their dream, also you don't need to be a professional photographer to take such amazing pictures, please just stop getting after them and enjoy the damn post
5 continents over 3 years with multiple wedding outfits isn't "tight budget" by any stretch of the imagination. People are just irritated because these people could've just posted the lovely photos and left out the budget nonsense. This article is basically pulling defeat from the jaws of victory because they seem like an otherwise lovely couple.
Load More Replies...This is traveling the world for 3 whole years. The world. Three years. That's not quite the equivalent of wedding costs. And not everyone complaining had a $147/plate wedding. We had finger food and snacks that the family made and brought themselves. We decorated with greenery from the nearby woods...THAT'S a tight budget. And these weren't even wedding photos, they weren't even married yet and they started taking the photos 3 years before. This is just humble-bragging.
