the street has little to no parking and the villa is historically protected.

Garaging provision in the traditional sense was impossible – requiring the controversial decision to install a drive-in garage and car stacker in what was originally the front left bedroom.

by carving out internal portions of the villa, adding masonry wall structures, and retaining we were able to facilitate the car stacker installation.

along with upgrading the inside the original villa facade now gives way to a hidden garage in a seamless manner.

there is a playfulness of creating the vehicle storage area behind the facade of a heritage villa, and the way this interacts with the existing street scape, the community in general, and the way people discover what lies beneath.

this playfulness between interior and exterior space seems to extend the boundaries of the villa both spatially and historically allowing an old building to be used in a modern way…
