Spectacular Christmas Tree Illuminated With 5 Km Of Lighting Announces The Holiday Season In Vilnius
The lighting of the Christmas tree on December 1st tree marks the beginning of the holiday season in Vilnius.
Lithuania’s capital has received a lot of global attention over the years for its unique and stunning Christmas tree decorations, and this year’s creation, which looks like a giant clock lined with hundreds of Christmas lights from above, certainly did not disappoint.
Vilnius transforms into a veritable winter wonderland during this festive month and can be explored by taking a ride on the Christmas train, which makes its way through the city’s UNESCO-listed Old Town. Visiting the Christmas village filled with souvenirs, hand made Christmas decorations, and festive food at the Cathedral and Town Hall Squares is an absolute must – both are open until 7 January. Moreover, a 3D tale of the birth of Jesus projected onto the walls of the Cathedral will make for an unforgettable experience for the whole family – the 15-minute story will be told four times a day starting at 5 p. m. from 25th to 29th of December.
For all of those seeking for the real Christmas spirit in the city over the holidays, the ice skating rink will awaken childhood memories of magical winters. And to top it all off, New Year’s Eve will be marked with a special interactive Christmas tree light installation on the Cathedral Bell Tower, reminding everybody about the power of time and the importance of history. For the most spectacular fireworks, staying at Cathedral Square as the clock strikes midnight is another must.

I'm from the UK and went to Vilnius for a stag-do a few years a go because it was 'cheap'. I absolutely loved it, the old town is beyond beautiful and in 3 days, meeting hundreds of people on the street and in bars, shops, hotels etc. everyone was very polite, friendly and helpful. I love Vilnius.
A beautiful feat of engineering. I wonder if a casual visitor can see this spectacular display from the top as well?
If they're allowed to enter and get to the top of the bell tower right next to the structure, then I believe they can see it, yeah. Might need to pay a ticket, though.
