I Document Intimate Moments Of Couples In Love
453Kviews
I’m Bucharest-based photographer Natalia Mindru. I capture the raw, unabashed love between couples in a series titled Iubiri Urbane (translated, it means Urban Love Stories). This is my ode to stolen kisses, kept secrets, and unspoken words shared between love birds in a metropolis that rarely stands still enough to notice. I’ve always felt like being in love and showing affection were really important to me.
Before arriving at a couple’s home, I know nearly nothing about my subjects. The only prior communication is through social media and, as a result, I approach each session without preconceived notions or expectations. In this way, Iubiri Urbane offers a fresh exploration of love in its many forms: tender, sometimes playful and other times messy, but it always depicts the natural attraction between the cute couple.
I am not trying to convince anybody to be a part of my love images project. Couples should feel they want to do this, to be comfortable and relaxed with my presence. Once a photo session started, it usually takes two hours, during which we have a drink, talk, and get to know better each other. Often my subjects even don’t realize that their pictures were being taken. I know that happiness for all of us is a switch that can be flicked in our brain. So, I’m like a switcher for couples. More couples told me that they feel the process of photographing as couple’s therapy, it makes realize things that they maybe haven’t realized before about themselves. Probably because they should be sincere, they share their feelings, vulnerabilities in the world they are opening up.
I started this couple’s pictures project one year ago being very ambitious. I aimed to show that love is for everybody; love does not judge and accepts any color, religion, sexual orientation. The Idea of diversity is essential, and traveling through different countries could help me to achieve this purpose. Thus, this year, I’m thrilled to visit and photograph couples in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Hungary, UK, Netherlands, Portugal. I’m open to any other new destination.
In November-December first volume of Love Stories is going to be released.
I would like to encourage couples in love to message me. Together we are going to create a lot of incredible pictures.

Where are the REAL couples in love? All I see are models in poses. Where is the photo of a couple supporting each other after spending a night nursing a sick baby? The older people walking hand in hand? The widow or widower mourning their loss of a loved one? Celebrating the REAL moments that deepen a connection. And why just hetero couples? GTFO with this shit, this isn't showcasing love but the photographer's ability to take pretty black and white pictures.
Wtf? They don't look like models to me. Just because they have a nice figure doesn't mean they're "models". Surprise, you can work out and eat healthy and actually look this good! :/ This isn't shit. The cliches you enumerated are, if you wanna see that kinda thing, go on tumblr or facebook - it's full of them there. God it always has to be fussy people like you to nag about anything.
They are very real, for sure. 85% of women aged 17 to 30 in Bucharest look like them. The project is about "my ode to stolen kisses, kept secrets, and unspoken words shared between lovers " as she states. Not about love as a whole concept. And hetero, because LGBT is a very rare presence, and probably she wasn't invited to share their intimacy. And no, I don't know the photographer, just for the sake of correctness.
I agree, when I saw the photos I felt more like I was seeing photos for a CK ad. Maybe that is the reality for the artist? Sadly a lot of us who are surrounded by the more "regular" people in the world can not relate. Nice photos though.
I think she just means they all look VERY staged. Nonetheless still nice photos, but nothing authentic.
Yes love is not something new, you are right.
I think your view of love is cute.
who is the model? by the way, what is wrong with models? they are not human? they have no right to love? Why should I photograph widows? :)))
Some people are so quick to find something negative to say. Sad, really.
I totally agree with you "Mara Tỉado" !
just to react to Mara Tirado and you - its her project, its probably much easier to take pics of young childless couples. Thats all... and yes some of them are pretty = there are pretty girls in Europe. So calm down, enjoy, or make you own project.
Go and do your own photos instead of complaining, you can show Your vision of couples in love. BTW I'm in relationship long time and we still walk had to hand and I'm not young person....
hating young, hetero, childless couples much?
I would like to see that! Pick up a camera, and bring your ideas to life!
Yeah, it all looks very staged, quite unnatural poses. Not so much documented intimate moments but all staged I would agree.
Preach!
Full agreed
What does sickness, old age and death have to do with love? Can't there be love between two young, healthy, happy, childless couples? What do you know about their story? Perhaps they dont have a baby to nurse due to infertility?? Thought about that? Also, if you need, sickness, death or in general sadness to feel love, then I feel sorry for you.
The takeaway:your work isn't diverse, it's beige. It makes you happy&that's what matters.Maybe work on your artist statement; it's false.
Waiting for the diversity advertised in the description to come up in the photographs. xD
Exactly what i was thinking!
Nah, apparently you have to have model-type physique to be diverse
Im romanian and I must say this people look pretty average to me, not like models. 90% of native romanians look just like them...
Yeah, me too...

"My aim was to show that love is for everybody, love does not judge and accepts any colour, religion, sex orientation . The Idea of diversity is important and traveling through different countries could help me to achive this purpose."
I photographed couples from my community. Why should I feel guilty that they are white and look the way they look? That is my reality. If you have a certain vision how love, real love looks like, just take camera and go! do it your way! photograph what you feel, people from your community, people from other countries, same sex couples, overweight couples, widows...just do it. good luck!
Bc in your statement you said you were presenting the diversity of love bt sex, religion and race.
" My aim was to show that love is for everybody, love does not judge and accepts any colour, religion, sex orientation ."
Wow! Fatality!!!
maybe this kind of picture also shows that love is for everybody maybe there is 0% difference between this couple and any other couple regardless of religion, and the whole stereotyped list. these picture represent love in a sensitive and neutral way they're not very surprising, and they're not meant to be i truly think this also represents love, you shouldn't wait for diversity diversity is by definition every couple
Absolutely... personally I'm tired of people with using 'diversity' as a selling point... In the West ''diversity" is often a code-word for anti-white. The only problem is, that here you did indeed state that your photos were crossing sexual orientation and ethnicity etc.. so, the petty people complaining unfortunately have a point. I like your photos and I'm personally glad you are basically showing white Europeans. But please amend your description.
How's it petty if people are just calling her out for falsely identifying her work?
you presented it as diverse. it's pretty much all white, able bodied, conventionally attractive straight couples. they ages don't even seem to vary much. what did you mean when you said "diversity of love?"
I met the most beautiful woman and fell madly in love with her. The photos taken are as if they were taken of us.... Every chance I get I'm capturing precious moments like these... So I can relate to your vision... Great job... image207-jpeg.jpg
Amen.
