Listen here, yes it does say that men can have four wives and that was actually a low number at the time. Back in those days men would be marrying countless women. 4 was a limit. Now days, that rule is barely applied because people marry the traditional one. Nowhere does it say women are walking vaginas. They have a whole sura for women's rights that are a bit behind the times today, but were very progressive when the Quran came out. Yes, it does say men can be with multiple women in paradise but it never says that women can't do something similar. You sound like you are islamophobic. It goes on to say that birthing a male is cleaner then birthing a female, hence a mother must purify twice as long when having a daughter. This is blatant sexism from the point of birth. So maybe the language of Exodus 22:16-17 was exaggerated in Terd F's comment (if you're looking at the NIV, at least)... but women had no power, no say. If a woman was raped, you can't doubt that the same law would be applied to her and her rapist. I grew up as a Christian and it took me a long time to see the inherent misogyny in the religion. The fact that my entire life I was told and expected to dress modestly because the sexual urges of boys and men were somehow MY responsibility. Like I can't wear a low cut shirt because it might turn someone on and god forbid they be tempted! Why aren't they responsible for respecting my body? This is how rape culture occurs. P.S. There's an entire psalm that talks about how to be a good, subservient wife... there is no such doctrine in the Bible about how to be a subservient husband. It is in the Old Testament, as I said earlier the Old Testament is to point out humanities flaws and sins, meant to be read as a history book. Look at all of the passages you have posted, they are all from the Old Testament. Also, as you probably do not know, not all Christians, including me, “blindly follow” the Bible. I believe that birds are in fact, not bats, but stuff from the Bible such as, in basic terms for you, don’t steal, don’t murder others, don’t cheat on your spouse, is true, which I follow. But I do not believe that placing a cow in front of a striped object will create striped offspring, but I am still a Christian. Shenanigans! These stories set out specific rules for rape price, differences between rape in a town vs in the country. Since you brought up the 10 commandments (which one BTW, they are stated in multiple places, and aren't alike), they also list "thou shalt not covet thy neighbors house, his a*s, his oxen, and his wife." That pretty clearly relegates women to property status (or at best chattel). That is just a few things from the old testament. For the new testament, we have Timothy, which basically says that women are unable to teach, shouldn't speak, and so much more.
