You know, Pandas, it’s really way too easy to focus just on the negatives. In fact, we’re hard-wired for that. It’s called negativity bias and it means that we dwell on the awful things that have happened to us more than the awesome ones. So with all the news about just how bad things are looking recently, you’d be perfectly right to be anxious and upset. However, we shouldn’t forget that, at the same time, life’s full of beauty, wonder, and wholesomeness. Albus Dumbledore told us that happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, but we have to remember to turn on the light. Well, let’s turn that light on, shall we?

Today, we’re featuring the best posts from the r/gatesopencomeonin subreddit, a 356k-member-strong community that celebrates people acting excellent and being wholesome to each other. It’s the kind of stuff that really restores part of your hope in humanity. And it’s a reminder that we have to strive to be altruistic and kind, especially when things are looking tough.

Upvote your fave pics as you’re scrolling down, Pandas. And tell us all about the nicest thing you’ve done for someone recently, in the comments. Meanwhile, check out Bored Panda’s interview about how to live a happy and healthy life, as well as how to be nice to others when we don’t feel like it, with writer Ariane Sherine, the author of ‘How to Live to 100’ and ‘Talk Yourself Better.’

Oh, and if you’d like some more proof that people totally have the potential to be awesome, take a peek at our earlier articles about the ‘Gates Open, Come On In’ community here: Part 1 and Part 2.

I had a family member do that to me. No matter what medical issue I deal with they've had it so much worse than me. I just shake my head and say really with a look of surprise. Then I tell them I'll pray they get better...

All these parents trying to own tired gets me bad. You chose to raise children and now the world owes you enough sympathy to put you on a special pedestal above everyone else. Only disclaimer is yes I do feel sympathy for parents, especially single parents who actually had no choice in their circumstance. It's just that I'm an equal opportunity empath, I feel just as much sympathy for everyone else struggling out there.

While I do agree that parents don't "own" tiredness, it's an equally unsympathetic view to say "you chose to raise children" like everyone who has children knew what they were getting into - or, for that matter, chose that way. My husband and I, for example, chose to have a child - then came our twins, and then came his sleep apnoea that basically turned me into a single mother even while my husband was around. He couldn't stay awake during anything, he once almost dropped one of our girls at 4mo because he fell asleep. Did I know motherhood would be hard? Yes. Did I think I wouldn't get more than 3 hours sleep in one go for almost a year? No. It's better now, but I still get mad at people seemingly thinking parents sign a contract with all footnotes attached. Maybe that's not what you meant, but the sentiment is widespread.

Meanwhile, certain rich people are complaining about the "underpopulation problem" because the working class doesn't have the time nor resources to re-populate. Maybe turn up that trickle in the trickle down theory and allow everyone some more of that luxurious free time like most civilized countries? (Although, fewer humans = less consumption of earth's rescources and less polution...)

At nearly 8 billion, there is no way we are underpopulated. The only reason the rich say we are is because they want large generations of future workers to exploit so they may be able to continue hoarding wealth.

Well everyone can be tired but I’d really like people to recognise that exhaustion is totally different, and for people with actual exhaustion (as a medical condition, often tied to another chronic illness) it’s not anything like a normal person being tired. The body is broken and cannot function, whereas tiredness is normal and manageable. So please don’t equate the general idea of being tired with someone who has exhaustion. It’s an entirely different kettle of fish, and anyone with exhaustion would *love* to be tired instead.

Yes! I'm actually extremely tired of people being called lazy or they haven't done enough to be exhausted. Or thinking because someone doesn't have a paying job they are lazy or don't do anything. It's total b******t how we've been convinced that our worth as humans is based on productivity or how much they work. As if those of us who don't have a paying job are not doing anything productive. Yes we are, we all are! Just existing takes maintenance and effort on a daily basis. From getting up to brush your hair, using bathroom, the upkeep of your house, yard, car, kids, pets, and selfcare is enough to begin with. No one gets away with doing nothing if they are living and breathing. Sometimes just breathing and the mental load is hard. That's not even including a job that takes the majority of our precious time. So please stop with the b******t about anyone being lazy or not wanting to do anything productive. We all already do and I'm f*****g exhausted dealing with people who think just wanting to exist and just be, is somehow wrong. No it's not! Our negative conditioned mind on our worth as humans is what's wrong. We deserve to exist and live our lives how comfortably we see fit. It's not supposed to be uncomfortable and hard no matter who tries to convince you otherwise.

They probably do. I have CFS amongst others and I am really weak. For me anything i do is like 2-10 times harder than it used to be when i was healthy. But even my loved ones avt as if them working 8h is comparable to our fatigue. Not it is not. I used to have a very physical job, be 8h there and have energy to go out or cycle to the store. Now driving to the vet with my well behaved dog takes me 2 days to recover. Its like if 8h working for us would be 24h working non stop. Then we can start comparing.

Agreed! When I was a little girl, I HATED the “girl” toys and wanted Transformers, GI Joes, Hot Wheels… my mom soon realized she had not adopted a malleable blank slate and started neglecting and abusing me. Luckily my dad was awesome, and my mom had my older sister (their bio child and VERY frilly-girly) to focus on. So my dad got me all the awesome toys I wanted and my sister got all the Barbies ;)

I had a woman in a shop "warn" me that the pink bunny was also available when I was buying a dinosaur toy for a baby girl. I proceeded to tell her about the discussion I have with my grandson when he mentions a "girl toy." I always ask him if the toy has a vagina. Yeah, no. Toys don't have a sex.

I personally like girly things and certain colors and I can reassure you it has nothing to do with genitals. Any color or thing can be for anyone who likes it. Basing it only on what's between our legs is just insane to me. I honestly don't know how or who started that c**p. But we are definitely able to be better than that and thinking that way.

Yes! This is exactly how we should approach this. At this point, internet trolls are like that loud vocal minority that make it seem like there are more of them than there actually are. Most people just want to learn - no-one knows everything about everything, and memes and satire skate so close to reality it can genuinely be hard to tell the difference. The benefit of the doubt can sometimes be the kindest thing you can give an internet stranger.

The ‘Gates Open, Come On In’ subreddit has been delighting redditors (and more!) around the globe since early 2018. In the 4+ years since being founded, it’s carved out a niche of wholesomeness, hope, and good vibes by being the polar opposite of r/gatekeeping.

They only have two rules: there’s no gatekeeping allowed and you have to be nice. That’s it. Really. It’s a pretty straightforward recommendation for living a good life, isn’t it? Besides, it’s refreshing when you focus on the positives for a change, isn’t it?

My best friend went back after 20 years and was very proud, as anyone should be!! He did meet his expiration only a few weeks after from a sudden quick moving cancer that killed him 2 weeks after diagnosis. But guess what? That didn't take away the pride he felt in his accomplishment, the energy of the challenge, or the new friendships he made when he went back to school! Even if you don't graduate, be glad for the knowledge you gain and the experiences you go through, because THOSE are life!!

Even though I had the grades, college was out of my reach at 18. I had to leave home, go to work, and pay rent and bills. At 51, I experienced my 3rd layoff, but this time I took advantage of programs Unemployment was offering, including paying for my Associates degree. I didn’t stop there’s and got my Masters at 58. I DID IT! Top of my class the whole way, doing better than people half my age or less, so don’t anyone DARE tell me older people cannot learn anything new! It’s never too late to get that education.

Kathryn, may I ask what you got your degree in? I got my associate degree fairly young, but then life happened. I needed to work, etc., and have been raising a son for the last 17 years. At 53, with no degree and no recent work history, my options are not great. So I was thinking of going back to school. Just not sure what to do with myself. Anyway, thanks for listening!

This is so true. Even if you’re certain you’ll always have or get a particular job, one day you could be struck down with illness and never be able to work again despite still being capable. (Probably) everyone wants to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. But it’s a hard thing to do in practice, especially when you’re bound by doubt, anxiety, and fear. Bored Panda reached out to author Ariane, who has written about health and happiness, to understand what contributes to our satisfaction with life the most. Really, it’s mostly about altruism and having a tight-knit social circle (among a few other things).

“Close, fulfilling relationships with others are one of the most important things when it comes to happiness, whether romantic or platonic. Studies show that the more close friendships and relationships you have, the longer you live,” Ariane shared with Bored Panda. “Volunteering and helping others are also likely to make you happy.”

I love video games and comics. I also happen to be 39 and a female. I used to always get cráp about not "really" being into comics because I had no clue what else writer's did or because I wasn't big into DC or Marvel. Sorry I like independents and go by story rather than writer. I wasn't a "real" gamer because I don't play first person shooters; nevermind the 130 hours I logged playing Final Fantasy (sidequests really eat time) or the fact that I have 100% completed some games (I get ocd sometimes and must collecteverything). Its always been really annoying. Oh and don't get me started with the psycho anime fans; I'm not a "real" fan because I don't want with subtitles; I prefer dubs so I can actually watch and not read (I have manga for reading)

I like songs from artists that should be or are in jail, I like songs with distasteful lyrics. I like the song for the beat, tempo, melody etc. If I like it, I like it.

I’m 61, and have been a lifelong Beatles fan. But don’t ask me specifics about each song, album, or band member. I know some stuff and I’m always open to learning new stuff, but I’m no expert about the band. I just like them and their music. That’s enough for me.

I can't stand gatekeeping fans. I'm a big kpop fan and that happens so so often. Of course it's usually the younger teenage crowd. Most actual adult fans are very welcoming and more than happy to help newer people.

He loves rainbow and pink and if he were to ask for a skirt then we'd buy it. Clothes are meant to cover you not to display gender

Where do people get the idea it's somehow gendered to wear a skirt? Kilts, robes, tunics, togas, etc have existed throughout history, all around the world.

I have a shirt that looks like a "woman's" shirt. All smooth, like a dry fit sweat absorbing material. I don't wear it. I should, I think I'm the only one with a shirt like that around. Got it from Alaska, with Cannabaska on it. The logo is a moose with droopy eyes. Enough of the sexism, I will definitely sport it tomorrow. I just hope that my closed minded coworkers do not blow a fuse since it markets a marijuana dispensary!

Joe, I wore a sweater to work my daughter gave me for Christmas. It wasn't very masculine but so what? It was warm. Anyway, one of the guys asked, "Where'd you get that sweater?". I answered, "Your Mom left it on my bedroom floor last night." -Childish, I know, but it ended the questions.

Exactly! It's the peak day of the heat wave today. I walked my dog at 7am wearing a thin, floating, light dress. I passed men in shorts with thick waist bands and their tee shirts tucked in, and just thought how absolutely ridiculous it was that they 'couldn't' wear a similar garment to me. I wouldn't call them little b***hs because a) I don't use misogynistic language but mainly b) because it is the whole of society that has trained them for fifty or more years that wearing a dress would make them laughable (and they *would* meet with constant reactions). I just wish there was a way as a whole society to move this stuff on.

I have never read most classic books ie Anne of Green gables, to kill a mockingbird, little women, 1984, pride and prejudice, Moby d**k, war and peace etc. I don't care if people try shame me for it, doesn't mean I'm gonna read them. I have tried reading a few classic style books and found them too hard to read. It's like I need a dictionary beside me to understand the old language used. Not my cup of tea. Worst book I ever read was The thorn birds which is an Australian classic. I will pass thanks.

1984, tried to read that a couple of times, could not get into it, then one day tried again, and I read it, enjoyed it and is now one of my favourite books. Sometimes you have to be the right mood, level of being awake, etc etc. Honestly, I recommend it. Also To Kill a Mockingbird, I cannot tell you how good this book is.

It shouldn't matter what it is you're reading, so long as you're reading. Literacy rates would skyrocket if we put the time into figuring out what interests kids to read about instead of forcing them to read "classic literature" in school.

Honestly, i think you are correct. I loved to read when i was a kid, but all the assigned books were depressing, stressful, and boring at the same time. They'd have us read things like Scarlet Ibis, Where the Red Fern Grows, Animal Farm (twice! 😠), Farenhight 451, etc... all doom and gloom. How is a society supposed to get better when all they present us with is doom and gloom? (And for entertainment it's all sex and violence.)

We were also curious about how people can control their anxiety better, especially if they’re worried about the economy, the war, and the pandemic. Ariane shared some of her thoughts about becoming more resilient during tough times. The important thing here is to control what you can and to let go of what you can’t affect.

“It's a matter of doing what you can to make your own situation better, and then accepting that you can't control everything,” she said. “You can never control everything, and trying will make you even more anxious. But you can control certain things to reduce your risk.”

That's the thing, you don't have to be religious to want to join somewhere you are welcomed and made to feel like you belong. All churches should be making people feel that way. When I moved house when I was a child, we tried out a few churches, and there were some where we just didn't get the sense we were welcome. The one we settled on (which happened to be the one my grandparents went to) we stayed because, despite no other young families there, we were welcomed with open arms.

You should be welcomed. It saddens me that so many churches don't present themselves that way. Jesus taught people they were all welcome with him and we should do the same. I don't want to assume anything, but did you ever try out different denominations? I know a lot of the big churches, while saying the opposite, can be fairly cold to newcomers. My family had to 'shop around' a few churches and denominations when we moved to a new area and some just didn't make us feel at home.

I hope you don't mind me getting serious for a moment Shelli, because I know it was a joke, and it did actually make be smile, but this is something that's been on my mind a lot in recent years. I'm sure the majority of people online would say it's not okay to be hateful, but then there always seams to be an exception to that rule that people will jump all over without a second thought. Think for example about how, rather than addressing the issues and having a constructive conversation about mental illness, so many will call Trump hateful names. Or rather than discuss the best way to pull people out of hate groups and change their minds, you get a lot of 'I hope they die' type of comments. Or think of cancel culture. Someone makes one regrettable mistake, and they're done in the public's eye, with no chance of redemption. The internet seems to breed this kind of de-humanizing mob mentality, and I think a lot of folks that are guilty of these behaviors are blind to their own hypocrisy.

With mine and my husband's diet restrictions, I will never be fully vegan/vegetarian, but my meat consumption has shrunk exponentially. I used to have meat 3 times a day. Now, maybe one small portion per day. I do go some days without it at all. I mostly like to eat seafood/fish and chicken. I still eat bacon from time to time, although not even close to what I used to eat. All other pork and beef could disappear and I wouldn't care. It's mostly due to some sensory issues I developed, but I'm not unhappy about it. I also use ALOT of vegan recipes due to our diet. I made vegan banana nut muffins last night. Was afraid they would be dry. Nope. Delicious!

So true! Reducing harmful things in your life is always helpful. There is no need to turn everythign into a religion, just so you can tell people they are 'not doing it right'. So you smokke 2 cigarettes a day instead of 20? Great? You only fly once every two years instead of five times? Cool! You eat one or two good steak instead of kilos of meat? Awesome! It all helps. And cutting down on something usually means cutting it down even more, once you get used to it.

I always wondered how truck drivers felt about this! Love that they’re good with it. However, when I taught my kids, I forgot to tell them to warn me. Scared the c**p out of me a couple times!

My partner is a truck driver and he absolutely lives for the moments he gets the horn tooting signal from random kids! FYI, though, a lot of newer trucks don't have that classic horn you pull on anymore, unfortunately. So you might get a "beep beep" instead of "toot toot", but the intention is the same.

Every time I say i’m tired (insomniac, cluster headaches, compressed discs and in general have poor mobility) my older sister goes along the lines of TRY HAVING TWO KIDS UNDER 5, THEN YOU’LL KNOW WHAT TIRED IS. And my younger sister says something like YOU SIT AT A DESK ALL DAY HOW ARE YOO TIRED. They don’t realise that depression and anxiety can also manifest with physical exhaustion or tiredness, and making me feel bad about being tired just exasperates both. So yeah, I feel this post, thank you.

Honestly the more "deep" depression is the worse it is. Let's not glamorize that. I've definitely been glad I could use art as an outlet for my mental health but it shouldn't be seen as edgy or cool. It's torment and pain and ruins parts of your life and it's really hard to recover from. You shouldn't wish it on yourself.

A picture was circulating of a movie still where the character was supposedly at her lowest. Assholes looking at it said she couldn't possible be depressed she was wearing a negligee and drinking wine out of a glass. I tried to tell them that has definitely been me days deep into a depression where I can't seem to lift my head up or see sunlight, or sleep, or eat. So I put on something comfortable and will eat/drink something simple and do things that have brought me joy before. Nope - I was informed that wasn't depression.

I didn’t realize I was severely depressed until I started working in a mental health facility and was educated about it. I just thought I was lazy and weak. Not everyone cries or contemplates ending it. Thank goodness for dogs and the miracle that is Wellbutrin!

I am so tired of people trying to 'diminish' my pain, my feelings. and it wasn't until just 3 years ago that i even had that word for it. That I was able to tell the person to stop doing that. They'd get flustered when I would counter please don't do that. Deny doing it. It's hard to push back, but it must be done to retain sanity.

Yep, got SA on my first date. Didn't really traumatize me but it's something I still remember and think about. Now here's what's actually traumatized me: seeing my mom running over cats because she lost her temper and didn't bother checking if anything was in the way of her car. Basically just trying to say that people can be traumatized by different things. What's traumatic to me won't be traumatic to everyone. It's all valid.

Ok I’ll need a little help here to clear some things up. And this is irl not in Peppa Pig. So my grandma keeps judging me. I’m always never perfect enough for her and even when I do get perfect grades and keep my room clean, she’ll pick out the tiniest details in me to complain about. And she never stops complaining. She can pick out the smallest thing and complain about it for days and I can’t even stop her or she’ll get mad and complain even more. Just a few days ago she threatened to kill my chickens then proceeded to make HERSELF seem like the victim saying we were all bullying her or something. She spends all day outside in the gardens leaving me to take care of my 4 year old sister. I cry almost every day because of all the things she says, like calling me fat or saying I’m dumb. What is this. I don’t know what to call it. I don’t know if it’s abuse, or if I’ll end up with trauma or anything. Please someone explain what I should call it and if I need help.

Talk to your parents or a trusted adult about Grandma's behavior so they keep you and your little sister safe & away from her. Her personality may be like this or she may be sick and need a doctor's care. She's being emotionally or psychologically abusive. Plain and simple. She doesn't have to hit you for it to be abuse. She's wrong to behave and speak that way and you do not deserve any of it.

My son became gravely ill and was on life support. The doctors told me to say goodbye. He survived yet I live in fear everyday because we know he will get sick again. It's been three years. I can't stand white towels that smell like bleach, the sound of helicopters or riding in an elevator, I can't look at a sunrise. I have flashbacks that hit me out of nowhere. I remember everything. I tell myself that it could have been worse, that at least he's alive. People say it's been too long to still be upset, to just get over it. I wish I could. Thanks for letting me say that.

If you show up to the hospital with a broken arm, but someone beside you goes into full cardiac arrest and almost dies, that doesn’t make your arm any less broken. Took me a long time to stop saying, “well someone else had it much worse than I did”.

It's 29 degrees where I live today, I am about to burst into flames! I hate hot weather - but apparently I have no right to complain because it's even hotter in north England (I'm in ayrshire, Scotland). My mum is loving every second of this heat. Sone folk like it, some folk don't. I HATE it, I'm not designed for it, I don't like being hot or sweaty and I don't really care that it might be worse elsewhere because I feel uncomfortable right now where I am. Scotland is a pretty cool place, weather this hot happens a handful of times a year, we arent equipped to cool our houses down, although mine is thick stone so cooler than most. Give me a dry sunny but freezing cold day in winter and I'll be happy

When that polar vortex hit Texas last year? The year before? Dunno. But there was a YouTube video about it with the most wholesome comment section ever. Northerners were giving advice on how to survive the cold, Texans asked questions without being ridiculed and there were even some people who apologised for mocking Europeans who suffered during the last heat wave. It was lovely all around.

I live in Canada and multiple times we’ve had cheerleaders come from Arizona during the coldest week of the year for a competition and many of them it’s their first time seeing snow and buying a winter jacket. We always welcome them to practice in our gym and make sure they stay warm. When we go down to Orlando for example for a competition other athletes are always so kind to make sure we’re not discouraged from the heat and making sure we’re not getting heat stroke or anything

Yes but she has the memories and experiences of all the previous hosts and is widely considered a gender-queer / non-binary character and these identities are usually considered to be under the "trans" umbrella.

I remember what it was like when I first applied to the job I work now. It was a fast paced deli, and they asked me if I had any food service experience. I told him that I worked as a hot lunch coordinator at a school, and I had kids of my own that I make sandwiches for every day. He said "Sounds like a high pressure, food based work environment to me" and hired me to make sandwiches part time. 8 years later, I manage that deli, and it clears over a million a year.

I truly wish that I would one day be able to come out to my family and friends. Sadly, they still think that asexuality is a mental illness and I am terrified of being labeled broken and a monster. I pray that one day asexual, demisexual, and agender people will actually be seen as full members of the LGBT+ community. It hurts when other members of the LGBT community say that asexuality is fake when we have one of the highest rates of being offered conversion therapy.

It is not a mental illness, and you are not broken. Asexuals, demisexuals and agender people are all valid and apart of the LGBTQIA+ community. You're sexuality is completely valid. You have come out on here, and for that, we applaud and welcome you. We hope that one day, you can make that decision to come out to friends and family with no fear

Some aces don't want to be part of LBGTQ+. That's okay, you don't have to be. Some do. That's okay, welcome to the party. To my mind, the person who gets to be the gatekeeper is YOU, for you only, you get to decide who you are. :)

Yes!! Too many people think that being asexual = being straight, or it's a mental illness, neither of which are true! We are a valid part of the Alphabet Mafia, and we're not broken.

There are bi asexuals, gay asexuals, and straight asexuals. Some asexuals are straight. Some aspects of the LGBT community apply to all sexual and gender minorities, others apply to those who are same-sex attracted. If we can please get back to kindergarten lessons on how to share and also how to respect boundaries, this shouldn't be complicated. Solidarity is in many cases more important than inclusion.

I agree wholeheartedly with that sign. I've never quite understand the whole concept of "young adult books". Aren't you limiting the potential audience by stating the industry's target audience? Who even makes the decisions: "yeah, this is a young adult book".

I believe it's partly due to the age of the characters in the book and their life situation. Often YA books are navigating "typical" teenager topics like first crushes, school/college, identity/sexuality issues, trying to navigate getting into the workforce and finding a job, relationships with friends and family etc. Of course those topics are not only interesting for younger people but like Konpat said I think they're really relevant for people in a similar situation which usually are young adults so it makes sense to directly label books as such.

my mum always told me, i'm too old for young aduldt books (when i was around 20). But i think, young adults is just the starting age? like the books for 8y.o.+ are also for kids who are 10 years and older?

This! I always saw it as just a recommendation. You can read children book at the age of 6, 12, 20, 35, 50 or 80. It doesn't matter!

Wonderful! I haven't been in the YA age category for a long time, but I vastly prefer them to 90% of the adult fiction. YA books have similarly profound themes, but none of the boring pretentiousness - and stuff actually happens in them! There is adventure! Romance (and not just s*xual violence)! Fun! Let's not forget that YA actually has fun in it.

I read quite a lot of YA books. I struggle with reading now due to some of the medication I am on and find that YA is a nice compromise as the language generally isn't quite as complicated as some of the other books I used to read. They are also printed in a slightly bigger font which helps me so much. My current favourites are The Chronicles of Ixia by Maria V Snyder.

Every middle school teaches To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s one of my all-time favorite books that I reread every year. I first read Little Women when I was a young girl. It’s another book I reread often. It is amazing just how different the story is when you read it at a different age and with more life experience than the last time you read it. THAT’S the glory of reading well-written classic literature, written by authors who really understand human nature and human experience.

Honestly 'young adult' has been invented since I was in my twenties. I understand why, I'm not criticising, but before them these books would have been just out on the shelves with all the others. Like 'teenager' and 'toddler' there's no scientific fact behind these divisions, it's literally just marketing.

Sometimes it’s donating a couple bucks to each organization you support. I don’t make much money, but every year I decide what amount I can spare, divide it up equally between all my favorite organizations, and give each of them their portion. May only be a couple bucks in leaner years, but always something. I mean, if everyone sent one single dollar to each organization they supported, that would end up being somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 million in the US alone.

Really. 🤦‍♀️ Yeah, why would Metallica want more people liking their musik? Double 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ (Hope the sarcasm is obvious because 🤦‍♀️ wow, what a clueless so called "fan") edited spelling

I hit the comments specifically to make a Napster jab. Thank you Kate. You're never too young to discover Metallica, but you might be too young to remember when they joined forces with Sheryl Crow and Dr Dre to try to end file sharing. All is forgiven, but yeah.

Basically what this person is saying "I am sorry that more people are being introduced into your music because of a TV show bc I am a gatekeeping brat who thinks that only people who were born in this era should listen to the music from this era." Metallica's response was so perfect.

I got into Mastodon because of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. It's a funny, dark yet playful song played by food versions of the band called Linoleum Knife and I went from there. I wouldn't have listened to their music otherwise because I wasn't exposed to it anywhere else

Pacing yourself is very important when you have a chronic condition (and if you don't at times) because using all your spoons can have a negative effect later on. One way I did that this week was to make half my bed (the fitted sheet and top sheet) and just chuck the blankets and doonas on top one day, then put the cover on the doona and fit them all another day.

I only recently learned about this expectation! I've always just not bothered applying when the expectations are too high. They really do need to differentiate between what's needed and what's wanted; at times the difference between the two is like the difference between minimum required and recommended specs on a video game!

In Australia, when you are on a jobseeker payment, you have to apply for jobs that you aren't sure you are qualified for (or know you aren't) to meet your job application target or else your payment might be cut. Then you get questioned as to why you applied for something that you can't do and it can be counted against you too! I hate this system sometimes (ok, a lot of the time).

Oh and let's not forget that some games, in order to complete it 100%, you have to play through on easy too. It's pretty fun playing easy and a great way to get a good boost to items and level; you breeze through and can catch things you may have missed from concentrating too hard on the more difficult settings.

I had a conversation with my dad about "women's football", and he self-corrected himself to "football played by women". It's not a different sport - the rules are the same, the equipment used is the same, and (slowly and finally) the pitches are the same. The difference is the gender of the players. That doesn't make it a different sport. The same thing applies here, and beyond sports. If everything about an interest is the same, with the one exception being the gender or race of the person enjoying it, that does not make it a different interest.

I actually love that games are making hairstyles and other things for any gender character you want. And also not making you pick the gender but just the body type. I used to be so annoyed when I'd pick female characters and my brother or now my husband had these awesome short hairdos for their male characters and I couldn't use them if I wanted to be female. Such weird restrictions. Now we can make any character we want to!

I remember Saints Row was one of the first series to really just say "screw it" on gender-locking character design. Those games literally have a slider between "bodybuilder" and "J-cup breast" body types and you can set it however you want in between. Has zero bearing on anything your character wears, does, says, or can accomplish.

The second, minute, and hour hands are all going a different speed, but they're all going to make it all the way around. Maybe you're not the second hand; You might not even be the minute hand. You would not believe how often this advice is needed for those who seek to transition via HRT! It's easy to focus on the timelines of people who hit the jackpot on the genetics lottery and got a ton of development in the first 6 months, but they are outliers and it doesn't matter either way. You get what you get from HRT, and if it makes you more comfortable with yourself, it's worth it regardless of the speed and intensity of the changes it causes.

If there were three or more things being compared, "the best" would be used. Also, I just wanted to say that you both have very impressive English skills. Have a nice day!

The only difference between you and an expert is time spent. The expert kept going when they failed, and they got better, because you cannot do something constantly and NOT get better at it in some capacity. Especially not if you care enough about it to keep trying.

Easier said than done, especially when everyone has access to a camera at a seconds notice and can take a photo of you in an a compromised position then share it online for the world to mock. Yeah no thanks. Just one thing that stops me from doing a lot of things.

I feel you but also it's your life. Yours, not theirs. They don't get to tell you you can't try new things because you can't do them well. It's your life and yours to live and experience how you want it. And maybe you'll look ridiculous but I assure you, for many, you won't look stupid you'll brave. Seeing people being good at something isn't a motivation for me but seeing someone suck is. It makes me think that I can try too. I don't know if this helps anyone but if you're trying something new and sucking remember that there's someone who thinks you're a bada*s! Because I guarantee you I am.

I feel like this one depends on each person and situation. I was a shy kid and didn't want to confront the challenge of being around people but then my parents neglected me and I was isolated for years and now I have horrendous anxiety when I'm with people. Encouraging someone to get through their weaknesses to grow can be good too. I think it's all about knowing yourself. I'm also introverted so even if I socialized I wouldn't want to do it for a long time. So again, depends on the person and situation.

However, buying precut veggies and meal kits or frozen meal at least allows me to feed my family something at home rather than picking up fast food. I call it a win.

I think it is sad people need labels to be individuals, it used to be called growing up and trying out different things. But im very glad it gives more people an outlet and a wider colour-palett to experience life. And that is what is important here.

    Cierra Nope

I don't think it's sad at all. I found a label for how I felt about myself, and it helped me realize that the part of myself that was causing so much confusion and upset was completely valid and not just something broken in my brain. I'm non-binary. That's a thing that is real, whether or not anyone agrees with me is irrelevant. It's helped my mental health so much in the past years. Labels aren't for everyone, but for a lot of people they're a great tool.

Even the way me and my friends play Minecraft is different. One likes farming and helping others, I like building and exploring and two of them like to advance their armour and make generators and get to the The End super fast. It's all good and we like to play together. I'm 28 by the way. Never too old for Minecraft.

Yes, but we also take into account any grave goods found alongside remains, as well as the condition of the bones. We can tell a lot about how a person lived by their bones -- whether they led a life of leisure or toiled from dawn to dusk, whether they were sickly or healthy, what kind of standing they had within their community, all kinds of things. Analysis of their teeth can tell us where they grew up and offer a record of periods of famine and/or disease. A skeleton is a lot more than a pelvis.

This is really handy. When I did contradance in Ohio, it was really common for female dancers to dance the "male" part, so they had a bag of pre-tied neckties, and women dancing the "male" role for that dance would put one on so that people who encountered them in the dance would know how to dance with them (instead of thinking they'd made a mistake and ended up in the wrong place in the figure).

I feel like this has now been decided. Humanity in itself is batshit crazy. We now no longer need to feel inadequate, or anxious, or anything other than just being okay being ourselves. No matter which version of ourselves we're feeling like today, it's okay. Do what you need to do to be able to get to tomorrow, and be yourself again tomorrow without feeling guilty, or ashamed.
