Turning Ugly Into Art: Sareytales are original designs and illustrations inspired by real text messages received during online dating experiences. Using design, humor and personal insight, Sareytales hopes to increase awareness to the online dating cyber-bullying culture.
Prints, greeting cards and other novelty gifts are available on my etsy shop for purchase: etsy.com/shopsareytales
Sarey Ruden Bio: I am creative director and graphic designer from Detroit, MI. After years of online dating disasters, she became inspired to turn all the creepy, cruel and often funny text messages she received into works of art called Sareytales.

Overall I like the project. I went to your Etsy and the mean texts are on coasters which have sold. I guess that as a woman I'm supposed to look at them ironically, but I probably wouldn't want to display any of the artwork in my home, especially the cartoon breasts. As an art and design project, I think the ones that are most powerful are printed on the objects like the wine bottle label and record cover. The posters seem a little bit facile. Overall, upvote.
Hey Kara! Thanks so much for your feedback on my project :) I agree with most of what you say, however at an art fair I was a vendor at a couple weeks ago I sold over 400 units (including the poster art and greeting cards). My most popular pieces were "what a cute Jew" "don't be a b***h" "femnazi hoes" and "when was the last time you swallowed". So while perhaps for you personally, hanging this art in your home isn't favorable, there's a huge market for quirky and empowering artwork. Especially to be given as a gift. I think it just depends on the audience, for sure, since most of my work is so polarizing. Thanks so much for your feedback though, always appreciate others perspective! Best, sarey
