Trans Woman Stirs The Pot By Going Into The Men’s Bathroom And People Have A Lot To Say
In May 2026, the UK government published updated guidance that sent shockwaves through an already heated national debate. The guidance confirmed that single-gender spaces like public toilets can legally restrict access based on biological gender rather than gender identity.
For transgender women in the UK, the practical implication is significant because spaces they have been using, in many cases for years, may no longer be legally required to accommodate them. One creator with 195,000 Instagram followers decided that, rather than arguing about it in the comments, she would show her audience exactly what the policy looks like in the real world.

Jessica, who posts under the handle @jessicasuch_x, stood outside a men’s toilet, turned the camera on herself, and said simply: “So guys, as you can see, I’m outside the men’s toilet. That’s where I have to go now, so come with me.” She greeted a man on his way out and headed straight for the urinal. Something that was obviously a logistical nightmare. She noted that it was “quite scary.”
At one point, a man apparently expressed discomfort at her presence, and she panned the camera toward him and said, “He felt really uncomfortable.” The video was not dramatic or confrontational, but the absurdity of the situation was all she needed. A visibly feminine woman standing in a men’s toilet was, entirely by itself, the argument she was making.

But some people did say that filming in a bathroom, regardless of your goal, is crossing the line
In an interview, Jessica admitted that the video was aimed at showing people what this looked like, not to provoke people
Jessica told VT.co that the experiment was never about provocation for its own sake. It was about making an abstract policy debate suddenly, uncomfortably concrete. “I wanted to show the real-life consequence of telling trans women to use men’s toilets,” she said. “It’s easy to say online, but seeing a visibly feminine trans woman actually enter that space makes the issue feel very different.”
The reaction inside, she said, was predominantly confusion and surprise rather than hostility. “People looked at me because I clearly seemed out of place, which was exactly the point I was trying to demonstrate.” In a follow-up video, she was considerably more direct. “I went in there to show how stupid it is,” she said. “Trans women in the men’s toilet is not safe, period. I was in there, I was being laughed at. I don’t look like a man, so you best believe I would not be using the men’s toilets.”

This isn’t the first time a creator has gone under fire for a bathroom stunt
Lily Tino is another trans content creator who faced massive backlash when she posted selfies from bathrooms at Disney World in Florida, ranking them with a score out of 10. She admitted she might get kicked out for using the women’s bathroom, but the biggest controversy was the presence of women in the background of her photos.
People accused Lily of seeking out confrontation and invading others’ privacy, with one user even launching a petition to get her banned from TikTok. One user wrote “HE is Cosplaying, NOT transitioning,” saying Lily is simply a character and not a true representative for the trans community.

Government surveys show that more people are paying attention to news about trans people and their rights
“I’m not going to shrink myself, apologize for existing, or spend my life explaining my humanity every time somebody decides my existence should become a debate.” She continued: “I’m a woman. I live my life as a woman, I move through the world as a woman, and when I need to use the toilet, I’m going to use the female toilets like I always have.”
And then, perhaps most powerfully of all: “There is something so exhausting about having your everyday life turned into a public discussion by people who will never understand what it feels like to have strangers debating where you should be allowed to exist.” Jessica is not asking to be at the center of a national conversation. She is just asking to use a toilet.
Jessica’s video landed in the middle of a debate that is shifting faster than many people realize. A YouGov survey paints a picture of a British public that is becoming increasingly divided on trans rights across the board, including among groups traditionally considered the most progressive. Among 18 to 24-year-olds, skepticism has grown measurably. While 61% of young people still say someone should be able to socially identify as a different gender, the number who say they should not has risen eight points to 25%.
On the specific question of gendered spaces, the data is pretty damning. 55% of Britons say that allowing transgender women to use spaces reserved for women presents what they describe as a “genuine risk of harm to women.” 58% say trans women should not be allowed to use women’s changing rooms and 52% say trans women should not be allowed to use women’s refuges for victims of gender-based violence.
At the same time, 41% of Britons say they have been paying significant attention to trans issues in politics and the media, up from 35% two years earlier. This debate is not quieting down. It is getting louder, more polarised and more personal. Jessica was only turning up the volume.
