Indonesia, the fourth largest country by population, is estimating that it will get the turnout up to 13 million people in World Cleanup Day call today, which will break the magic target of 5% of the country’s population for the cause of making the world better place to live. The number of participants in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, has been confirmed as 1 million.

If Indonesia makes its estimation, it will be hard to beat by any other country. The cleanup activities are going on in 34 provinces and 107 regions in the country with the population of 265 million people. Agustina Iskandar, one of the most lively and committed regional network leaders and the head of Let’s Do It Indonesia said the major stages with government officials, local celebrities and community leaders have been organized in the three biggest cities of Indonesia, led by capital Jakarta. The Cleanup Day action started at 6 AM local time, due to hot weather and humidity in this region of the world.

Iskandar hopes the turnout will be as has been expected and the total number of participants will be counted and declared by 4:00 PM UTC. In a country of numerous ethnic and religious divides, picking up garbage has become a project for peace.

Female leaders are rare in Indonesia, especially considering that Agustina comes from a Muslim backround. Yet it’s Agustina’s drive and intensity that brought young leaders from all over the country to Let’s Do It Academy in May. As a result, Indonesia achieved the highest levels of political support and that has now brought record-breaking numbers out to clean the country that is the second largest contributor of plastic waste to the world’s waters.

The Global Cleanup Day is a worldwide environmental initiative involving 156 countries and 20 million people.

World Cleanup Day events can be followed through the homepage www.letsdoitworld.org. The 24-hour, non-stop World Cleanup Live Show will cover the cleanups across the globe. The show is hosted by Irish TV presenter and producer Colm Flynn and TV presenter Zihlo Ndlovu from Zimbabwe and will be broadcast from Tallinn, Estonia. It will be aired via the World Cleanup Day website https://www.worldcleanupday.org/ and also via Facebook and YouTube channels.
