About a year ago, I started an illustration series called THE WORLD AROUND US. I was working at Pixar at the time and I was blown away by all the creativity around me. Inspired by brilliant story artists around me, I wanted to learn drawing, but also wanted to do something more than that. So, as an experiment, I started drawing around everyday inanimate objects. I’d take a picture of an object around my apartment and then try to come up with an abstract image by drawing around it, on my phone itself. Soon, I was surprising myself with the results. I was seeing life everywhere. A paper clip had a life, a pencil flake had a life, a bottle cap had a life, my own shadow had a life. I was surprised by how much life, beauty and creativity there is around us, that is if we are mindful enough to observe. In a world where people are constantly strung out on their phones and computer screens and there are endless distractions around us, making these illustrations taught me the importance of freezing time and paying attention — not just to objects, but also to people, neighbors, relationships, animals, birds, trees, nature, countries and the whole world around us. Perhaps, beauty and love is in the amount of attention we give to somebody. That’s what THE WORLD AROUND US is all about.
P.S. I extrapolated the same concept for videos too. Enjoy. Please share if you like.
