Well, it's 2 different circuits. One for 3V and the other for 1.5. I've seen this in clocks and things where one cell runs the clock, and the other two run a nightlight, and the nightlight is optional.

If it is neither of the three, its worth noting and enjoying. Otherwise, just chalk it up to the inconsistencies of life. :D
