The Juruks settled in Macedonia in the 14th century. In that period of time, they were called ‘’children of the conqueror’’ because they were moving together with the Ottoman army. They are strong believers in tradition and have little knowledge about what is going on out of their village and tribe. They have a traditional colorful costume with strong colors.
The houses where they live are ‘’stuck in time’’ – white walls, narrow windows, low ceilings and rooms without furniture. This is still a strictly conservative and patriarchal community. Women do not appear before strangers, do not talk to them, and never communicate with unknown men.
