I am Anna Węcel - a mother, a photographer and a huge Outlander series fan. I went to Scotland to make this incredible session!
It all started with watching the Outlander series on Netflix. STARZ Original Series based on Diana Gabaldon's best-selling books. When it turned out that the show was not enough, it was time to read all the eight books from the series written by Diana.
The story described in the books was so amazing and captivating that there was nothing else to do than to try to reproduce, although in a tiny part, a few scenes from the lives of the characters in books.
The trip to Scotland was scheduled for a year before the actual departure date. It gave a lot of time to prepare the costumes, accessories and to plan the route and places where the photos were to take place.
Based on costumes, my irreplaceable mother came with help and sewed out beautiful outfits that looked like dresses worn in the 18th century in Scotland. Trinkets such as 18th-century shoes or brooches were purchased in special eBay stores.
The travel date was also not accidental. It is on the first of May that the Celtic festival of fire and sun falls and that day the main character of the novel - Claire Randall - went through the stones to make a journey in the past 200 years back in time.
It was a dream come true. The ability to create visions that have been in my head for a long time is the biggest prize.
I visited Preston Mill which provides the backdrop for a number of scenes during the Jacobite Risings, Glencorse Old Kirk where Claire and Jamie tie the knot, Midhope Castle (known as Lallybroch) and many more.
The best part of the trip was meeting Sam Heughan who is the main character in Outlander and everyone know him as Jamie Fraser.
See for yourself what images were created during a week-long journey in time. I hope you fall in love with Scotland, just like me, and also go on a journey of your life to discover the beauty of this country.
