The Anxious Girls Guide To Travelling Solo
For those who don’t know me (which is most of you) I am the least likely person to have ever traveled solo. I used to be all talk- I’d love to do this, go there, see that, etc. All talk and no action seemed to be a theme in my life, mostly caused by an annoying little voice in my ear called ANXIETY. I never allowed myself to believe I would actually do all the things I dreamed of because I never thought I’d be able to silence that voice. Until I did.
Thanks to a few pretty awful things happening to me in a small period of time I finally had the realisation that- as cliche as it sounds- life really is too short to avoid things because you’re scared. Now don’t get me wrong, I definitely didn’t have this realisation and suddenly cure my anxiety and book a one way ticket. I planned meticulously for months and agonised over travel brochures and internet forums before finally deciding on a Contiki tour around Europe. (Yes I still count this as solo travel- I was still on my own even with a group of people)
Basically, it was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself because -again with the cliches- I really learnt a lot about myself and how capable I am, regardless of what the little voice says.
I’ve since done three major solo overseas trips (plus a few local domestic trips to satisfy the travel bug in the meantime)
So, without further ado- here are my tips for telling that little voice to be quiet and JUST LIVE
