This entire thread is infuriating. Landlords always want the perfect tenant and for them to treat the house as if it was their own and yet the owners are the hacks who are depreciating the value of their own home. I also think that a majority of these so called Landlords either inherited these income properties or had significant financial help in order to purchase these homes...like how did such stupid people make it this far in their lives? It really boggles my mind and frustrates me beyond belief.

I had this problem in an old apartment as well… I have horrible allergies so I was really suffering. I did a rent strike to get it fixed. It’s legal and you have to put your rent in an escrow account and file documents. He had it fixed immediately.

So, the kitchen floor definitely doesn’t have a subfloor. The laminate sinks in when stepping in certain areas and is damn well raised (like a bump in the floor) where a support beam is in the basement below it. I’ve waited weeks for my landlord to send someone. They no-showed the other day and finally showed up today. Just to say they couldn’t do anything about it. They told the landlord it’d need to be ripped up and replaced in order to fix the issue. Makes sense. It wasn’t installed properly in the first place. Duh. But landlords love their bandaids, right? In response to the floor needs to be torn up, this is what my landlord suggests. Rugs. In the kitchen. No plan to resolve the issue.

That is a swamp cooler and reality is, the outside appearance is not what matters. The pads and inner workings (spider, pump and motor) are what is important. No water leakage is apparent. I would make sure that the water in on.

In many US jurisdictions, you CAN withhold rent payments until serious issues are resolved. HOWEVER: you must create an escrow account and deposit the unpaid rent into it. This will definitely work in your favor in court if the landlord attempts eviction

I had just started running a taproom at a brewery, on my first shift one of my flatmates asked me to come home. I replied I couldn't as I was the manager and had to be here. I came home, the Landlord had turned up, off his FACE, wanted to kick her out so he could airbnb her room to cover his drug problems and when she said no, the guy ripped the SINK off the bathroom wall. I got home, we had two other house mates who did NOTHING, (the landlord also lived with us), when he came back i casually said, heeeey what happened to the sink. He went off on me and gave me one month to move out, I told my mate and he said. Don't give that *rude word* any more money. you are moving in here. Best move ever.
