Horrible Emails From Clients That Designers “Love” To Read

I always suggest to content managers and developers things and interfere in my work and they do the vice versa. But it is one think to suggest based on experience and it is another thing to ask a designer to put all the studying and experience in the trash. Would you as an engineer (structural for instance), agree to a client who asks you to put this pole, that you designed to hold the ceiling, on the other side because he thinks it looks prettier? I am sure you won't and I am sure they rarely dare to ask such requests. But for some reason, clients think anyone can design with the availability of free apps and the such, which gives them the power to pull such requests bashing your experience and your very existence. I am sure if anyone asks you such a request, you won't hold that motto and apply it. I am sure when your reputation and, as an engineer, people's lives are at stake, you would not say the client is always right.

I fully agree with Alaa here: the issue is not about the client making requests, and designers being snubbish, but about the excesses that some clients impose en you. The motives and reasons vary considerably from a situation to another, with some clients being absolute champions of the silly, impossible, time consuming requests, that make you feel like you're working in a Monthy Python movie. And Stacey, please refrain from telling architects how to do their jobs: cities 'designed' by engineers are horrible - I live in one.

As an engineer, I tell myself how to do my job all the time. I also have a habit of telling architects how to do theirs. Suffice to say they don't react well. But whenever I have failed to tell architects and designers what I want, properly, that'll be a piece of kit that I have to get fixed over and over again. I am happy to accept that as my responsibility. No designer worth their salt would ever not listen to their client.
