Math Teacher Loses It Over A Student’s Book, Then Suddenly “Retires” Weeks Later
As a nearsighted person, I was lucky to have teachers who would usually put me near the front of the class. This made it much easier to see the board before I got my glasses, and I could follow the lesson better.
Unfortunately, this sixth-grade student wasn’t quite as lucky. She asked her math teacher to move her closer to the front because she was struggling to see the board, but he refused. So the painfully shy student decided to take matters into her own hands, setting off an unexpectedly satisfying payback plot that her teacher certainly didn’t see coming.
Students with vision problems may need practical adjustments to follow lessons more easily in class
This teacher refused to move a near-sighted student to the front of the class and sparked an epic revenge
Nearsightedness is an eye condition that can make it hard to see things from afar
Nearsightedness, clinically known as myopia, is a refractive error that makes distant objects appear blurry, while things up close are easier to see. The American Academy of Ophthalmology explains that this happens when light entering the eye focuses in front of the retina instead of directly on it.
For a student sitting several feet away from the classroom board, this can make words and numbers difficult to see without adequate correction, such as glasses. Good vision can make a difference in how well children keep up at school. In fact, research on children found a link between how well they can see and how they perform academically.
While many parents want to correct their child’s vision if they’re having trouble seeing, getting the right care isn’t always straightforward. The National Eye Institute notes that eye care can be very expensive. The CDC also reported that more than 8 million U.S. adults who needed eyeglasses said they could not afford them because of the high cost.
This can leave students relying on practical adjustments while they wait to get a prescription and have access glasses. The American Optometric Association suggests moving a grade-school child with mild myopia closer to the front of the classroom if they are struggling to see the board. The simple change can improve the child’s visual environment.
Teachers may need to consider individual students instead of applying every classroom rule rigidly
A classroom rule can make things easier to manage, but students don’t all have the same needs. A seating arrangement that works well for one child may make it harder for another to participate, especially if the student has a vision problem that affects what they can see from a distance.
Research shows that the classroom environment can affect how well students learn. A study involving teachers and students found that supportive teacher-student relationships were associated with students’ confidence, interest, and academic performance. This suggests that while teachers don’t have to accommodate every request, understanding their students and responding to their needs can also help them learn.
For a child struggling to see the board, making a small change to their seat can be a practical way to remove a barrier to learning. It doesn’t require changing the entire classroom setup, but it can give the student a better chance of following the lesson.
At the same time, teachers still have to maintain order and can’t accommodate every request. The key is knowing when a student needs a reasonable adjustment to participate and when a request isn’t justified.
A classroom rule may seem reasonable until it clashes with a student’s individual needs. Do you think the student took her revenge too far, or was it just the right amount of payback? Let us know in the comments.

A story mostly about bad parenting. Legally it’s called medical neglect. (If story is real, which is doubtful).
The part about not being able to afford glasses is very believable

Load More Replies...Can anyone explain the link between the eyesight problem/seating and the fact that OP was reading a book (or 5) in class? I mean, no question that the teacher was at fault, but why did she think that it was OK to just ignore what was going on and sit and read books totally unrelated to the class?
Because they couldn't see what was being taught, so decided to do something they enjoyed instead.
