Honor Student Gets Suspended, Banned From Graduation And Almost Arrested For Wearing This Shirt
You’d imagine that a student with a grade point average of 4.4 and multiple scholarships would have to do something pretty extreme to get suspended from school for two weeks AND banned from their graduation, right? Wrong. Because this student from Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, North Carolina just got suspended, and almost ARRESTED, for nothing more than wearing a shirt. It wasn’t emblazoned with cuss words. Nor did it contain offensive imagery. It was, as you can see below, just a normal-looking shirt, but her high school principal said it violated the Hickory Ridge dress code.
Summer was sitting in the cafeteria last week when the principal told her to cover the offending item of apparel with a coat. Despite Summer complying with the request, the principal, this time accompanied by the school security officer, then sent her to the control room to change her shirt entirely.
“The security guard was within five feet of me,” Summer told WCNC. “He had his hand on his gun. The principal said, ‘I’m gonna give you an ultimatum. We have tried to call your mother. You either come with me to the control room to change your shirt or we will arrest you.’” This time Summer refused and ended up being suspended for “insubordination.” She’s also been banned from all end-of-year events, which includes her own graduation. A school that has a security officer, actually: a security offer wiedling a gun, and the right to arrest people? A school principal who calls armed security when handling a calm girl? We live in sad times.

It's like this --- we will soon be like Iran and other middle eastern countries where dress codes are enforced for women. I wonder if they would have arrested a guy who's pant crotch was at his ankles and his butt crack was showing?

Comon now.... this shirt makes it obvious that she's female. Once we allow young women to wear things like this around old male principals it's a slippery slope to allowing those same women to expose their ankles. You people just didn't think this through.

If it's against in their school's rules, they should warn her first, at least she will know , not banning immediately .

Geez, I didn't even NOTICE those indecently provocative, "boom chicka wow wow" shoulders. In all seriousness, I assumed the problem was that the material was clingy around her breasts... not that that excuses their behaviour, anyway. I used to wear a similar top in a corporate environment without any issues...

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have read all day. You (as in the school and everyone else thinking they can do the same) have got to be effing kidding me. Back when I was in high school, girls were allowed to wear tank tops, even of the cropped kind, and shorts, as long as they fully covered your butt. And guess what? The boys weren't automatically lusting over the girls... most of them anyway.
