If she really gets sick from seeing a cat eat meat, she needs a shrink, not forcing a carnivore to go vegan. It's fine if you want to be vegan, but it's not normal to get physically sick of seeing an animal eat meat.

So this stupid cookie is abusing her parents because she wants them to abuse an animal. Manipulative little s**t, isn't' she? ...///... There's only on solution for her problem. She has a grandmother, and she has a mother. She can "save money" by living with them. She doesn't get to crap on people who are trying to help her. ...///... I'm vegetarian and seeing meat makes me feel quite ill, but I feed my cat meat because he can't possibly consent to having his natural diet changed to fit my wishes.

I think the bigger issue here is a child, who has CHOSEN a specific lifestyle, feels like she can dictate that lifestyle upon her parents in their own home? This is the height of lunacy. My oldest son is vegan. He has encouraged me to eat a more plant based diet but we are not going to ruin our relationship over food choice. The girl in this story is a self absorbed, self righteous, spoiled little brat. I love that the parents stood their ground and let her know she could leave if it was a problem..

I would tell the MIL who weighed in on this to take the step-daughter in if she's so concerned about her weight, but that you are not going to risk the life of your cat over her because she has a problem with the cat's natural dietary needs. There is also another solution...stay out of the fricken' kitchen while the cat is being fed!

As someone already pointed out above, if seeing the cat eat a dry biscuit makes the stepdaughter sick, then how is switching to vegan cat food going to help? Obviously it’s not the meat content that is troubling her.

How can she even tell the cat food is meat? Almost all pet food (dog or cat) looks like unrecognizable glop. Same with the smell. All in all, very similar in appearance and aroma to many vegan dishes I've seen.

Simple. Tell your stepdaughter turn her head or go into another room, and not obsessively watch the cat eat. In fact, tell her to leave the poor animal in peace, and stop trying to micromanage everyone and everything around her. Live and let live, little girl, and you’ll get along fine in this world of incredible diversity. Keep going like you’re going now, and you will end up reeeeeeally lonely—-not even a cat would voluntarily keep you company, and they definitely wouldn’t eat any food you try to bribe them with.

This is a year old reddit. It's clear this step daughter has mental health issues. This is not an issue of her being vegan or about the health of the cat. Most vegans are animal right activist and feed their cats meat. This is an outrage porn article and I'm disappointed. Maybe publish an article that is actually useful.

All the people i have met that have a special lifestyle- vegetarianism, naturalism etc. are extremely difficult, unhappy people and complain a lot.

The solution is at the end of the story! Have the stepdaughter move in with the MIL! CATS MUST EAT MEAT! They are CARNIVORES!

Cat's can live on a vegan diet but would never choose to do so. This woman is a guest in YOUR home where YOUR cat lives so she needs to make allowances for that. As others have said it does seem as though this woman has an eating disorder that needs dealing with.

This girl is crazy. Not only she's rude AF to her family that welcomed her in their house, she's also ignorant about cats diet and wants to feed it inappropriate food. She should have no voice in decisions for carnivore pets, no!

I thought she was just there to save up money to buy a home. She should get a second job, save money faster by living on salad and leave that cat alone!

If she is getting sick from seeing an animal eat a food that usually doesn't even look like meat then its obvious she has a eating disorder and is using veganism to cover it up. Lots of ex vegans have came forward and have talked about how veganism created an ED. Humans aren't meant to be vegan either but they can handle it drastically better then a carnivore. If you have to supplement yours or your pets diet with essential nutrients because your diet is lacking it then your diet isn't healthy.
