30 Of The Best Spine Tattoo Ideas Ever
Most of the tattoo designs you see today are one of a kind, but these unique tattoo ideas take the cake. Not only are they beautifully executed, but the placing makes them even more special. Yes, we're talking about spine tattoos.
Although pain threshold varies from person to person, the spine, housing our nervous system and being covered only by a thin layer of skin, deems to be one of the most painful places to get a tattoo done. On the other hand - spine is literally our backbone, and by adorning it, you might feel empowered to stand tall through life's hardships. The spinal tattoos that we've rounded up in a list below definitely were worth enduring the pain.
From subtle floral details to abstract strokes, these tattoo ideas might make you want to get inked even though you weren't planning to or were afraid of the possible pain. Now, there are mostly women's spine tattoos in this list, but there is also a fair share of back tattoos for guys, too.

A beautiful tattoo, but for me, a back with freckles like that needs no further embellishment.

I love the butterfly one particularly. I'm designing a memorial tattoo for my daughter with ladybugs, but I want to incorporate beetles and tree frogs for my two boys, and that gave me some new ideas. Well done!

Less than Spine Surgery and the recovery for some of us hurt! I can see some of these and understand wanting something to cover the scars and give hope.

It seems that flower, moon cycles and botched solar systems on the spine have become a cliché, just like tribal motives in the 90's. Avoid them at all cost.

the spine is absolutely the best place for a tattoo - so you can avoid looking at in years to come when you go "what was I thinking"?

nah, unless you're in the habit of making bad decisions, tattoos are wonderful beautiful things that help define you, help you tell your story and help you express yourself.

I always see those Peter Pan silhouette/shadow tattoos and they are going to look awful as they age. They'll turn into weird black blobs.

I have a cross on my back that was done for my grandmothers. I had it done because I know that no matter where I go, they'll always have my back and even though I can't ALWAYS see it, I know it's there. To you it's bizarre, to me it's comforting and meaningful.

A few of these I recognize the shadows of the scars from back surgery. In those cases you can't have epidurals anyway why not hide the scars?
