Some Of The Happiest (And Funniest) Facts You’ll Ever Read

Usually, the world focuses on bad things. You’re always reading these sad facts and incidents in the news. So here are some facts that are positively positive facts! Also, I forgot to mention some of them may be cute too!

Everything started when a Reddit user asked others to post facts that made them happy. This list grew rapidly because people couldn’t get enough of random facts about people and the world that make them smile. Later, Buzzfeed took this list and matched it to pictures adding a couple of new facts. Now, we’re having a go at improving it by adding a couple of our own finds.

What’s better than knowing that somewhere out there in the world, sea otters are holding hands, cows have best friends, and that there are monkeys in Japan that buy snacks from vending machines with change? What other happy facts do you know?

1. Sea otters hold hands to keep from drifting apart. Awwwwwww!

2. The elements that we are composed of were formed in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are all made of star dust.

4. A prison in Washington pairs up ‘death row’ shelter cats with select inmates as part of a rehabilitation program. It seems to be a pretty wonderful thing for both the inmates and the cats.

5. Turtles can breathe through their butts.

6. Squirrels plant thousands of new trees every year by simply forgetting where they put their nuts in the ground!

7. Macaques in Japan use coins to buy vending machine snacks.

8. A BBC News program broadcast in 1957 ended claiming that spaghetti grew on trees on a farm in Switzerland. Many viewers believed the report and called the BBC asking how to grow their own trees.

9. Norway knighted a penguin.

10. Rats laugh when you tickle them. (I can confirm this, I have rats. Also, not my rat below.)

11. The voices of Mickey and Minnie got married in real life!

12. Sweden has a show where rabbits are in a jumping competition called Kaninhoppning.

13. Gentoo penguins propose to their soulmates with a pebble/rock.

14. Dolphins have names for each other.

15. Kissing burns 2 calories a minute. Undressing burns 8.

16. A study measuring the effects of music found that cows produce more milk when listening to soothing music. They produce the most when listening to R.E.M’s “Everybody Hurts.”

17. There’s a superhero with a hearing aid called ‘Blue Ear’. He was created by Marvel Comics to encourage a little boy to wear his own!

18. NASA had to relabel the penis sleeve for urinating in space suits from “small, medium, and large” to “large, gigantic, and humungous” because astronauts would only choose the large and they kept slipping off.

19. The Roman Emperor Caligula once declared war on Neptune, the god of the seas. His men ran to the ocean and stabbed at the water.

20. A group of flamingos is called a flamboyance.

21. Cuddling can help wounds heal faster, due to the release of oxytocin.

22. In the 1950’s there was a sport called Telephone Booth Cramming. You tried to fit as many people as you could into a booth. If more than half a body was sticking out, it didn’t count. The record is 25 people in a booth. (I know this because I did a speech on the 50’s.)

23. Cats bring you dead animals because they think you’re just a crappy cat that can’t survive on its own. Cats bring you presents!

And… sometimes they bring other things.

24. When rabbits (or bunnies) get really excited and start to jump around, it’s called a binky.

25. Sloth sleepovers are a real thing. At the Zoological Wildlife Conservation Centre in Oregon. You can sleep overnight with a room full of sloths.
