An ice skating rink that froze 5,000 dead fish and other sea creatures under ice was forced to shut down after receiving public outrage and criticism. The amusement park was called Space World and located in Kitakyushu, Japan. According to the CNN news, on the day of its opening, the company posted pictures of dead animals on Facebook with the following caption: “I am d… d… drowning, s … s… suffocating”. When this was met with public backlash, calling the company “terrible”, “sinful”, and “having no soul”, the Space World responded. The company swore that when they bought the fish they were already dead and considered unfit for consumption. They said they used real fish for educational purposes and to add something extra to the rink. “We were shocked to hear the reaction as the ice skate rink was very popular since it opened two weeks ago, we had an unprecedented number of visitors,” company’s manager Toshimi Takeda told CNN.

“We are sorry for the project and decided to close the rink on that night,” Takeda promised they would unfreeze the skate, remove the fish, and then hold an “appropriate religious service” for the dead fish.
