The relationship between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law often becomes a very problematic topic that has destroyed a lot of marriages. Mom often believes only she knows best what kind of woman her son needs, and that by destroying his relationship, she only makes him happier.

And so, during the next visit, when the husband asked the OP if she had brought a steak, she replied that his mom had promised to cook. Suddenly, the MIL claimed that she had not made any promises, and it actually wasn’t her business to perform the duties of a good wife.

To prove she was right, the wife just called the husband’s mom and put her on speaker
The OP was confused and did not know what to do. Her husband was very upset, and when his mother left to talk, she tried to explain what had really happened – but the man did not believe her. Then the wife called the MIL, putting her on speaker and asking why she tried to frame her.

As a result, the husband heard for himself how his mother said she did so deliberately to break them up, just showing how this woman allegedly could not be relied upon in a difficult situation. The man got extremely angry and forbade his mother to visit him in the hospital at all – who, as a result, later accused the OP of manipulating.

By the way, the OP’s husband also did not win much sympathy from the commenters. Agreeing that hospital food is far from the most exquisite in the world, people noted that demanding a steak from his wife was not the best idea, and it would have been worth immediately taking his wife’s side in this conflict.
Folks online have described the mother-in-law’s behavior as classic narcissistic, while noting the OP now has both good and bad news. The bad news is that she apparently married a “momma’s boy”. The good news – now her husband at least knows what his precious mother really is like.
