I’m learning German and there are a few phrases that particularly stick out to me.

Wo sich Hase und Fuchs gute nacht sagen— where hare and fox say goodnight. The English equivalent is “the middle of nowhere.”

Verschlimmbessern— To make something worse while trying to fix it

Meerschweinchen— little sea pig. It’s the word for guinea pig

Kabelsalat— the tangle of cords under your desk. It literally means cable salad.

Das ist mir wurst— It translates roughly to “This is sausage to me,” but means “I don’t care”

Schildkrote— Armor toad. It means turtle

In my case English is "a different language". And I truly feel that difference, especially during gaming, like calling someone "gray eminence", offering in chat "fresh wood" etc...
Thanks to ppl who can laugh without naughty thoughts and correct me. Direct translation can be so awkward!

Why would you need a special word for it? Is it so common thing or it means smth else?

In Norway we often say "Ugler i mosen", which directly translated means "owls in moss". It means something is not right/ fishy.

I'm native in sarcasm but I'm not sure that counts. I can also speak English, bad English, Redneck, and Hillbilly (yes there's a difference) all of those I'm fluent in. I know enough Spanish to understand basics but I sound Uber white and speak sentences like 'No donde estas' which makes no sense. I know a handful of German and Danish, I used to know a lot more Danish but if you don't use it you lose it and my brothers ex-wife is an ex so that happened. I can speak a little Japanese, but not enough to hold a conversation. I also speak Amish-Dutch but think more toddler like. That's about it.
