I Designed A Table That Requires You To Be Fully Present While Eating By Connecting You To Your Dining Partner
After researching the connection between mindfulness and design, I found that by modifying the design and changing the way people use an object, I can create a mindful experience. This is how I designed Sati Tala – an eating surface for two, that engages you to be fully present while eating.
The name means “a mindfulness surface” in Pali, an ancient Buddhist language. The eating surface rests on your laps and physically connects you to each other. This leads you to an experience of attention and presence with your partner. Sati Tala transforms eating with your partner into a unique experience.

Its not a table... its a plank of wood supported by more wood as well as some legs, I could do the same thing by taping a bunch of tv dinner trays together! What happens if one person has skinny legs, or fat legs? Or even (at the risk of being politically incorrect) one leg, or none?

It would never work for me. I fidget too much. That doesn't mean I'm not present tho. I just have hard time sitting still for long periods

Everybody stand up, you put off the table (hope there isn't too much on it) and you wait for your other half to come back. As stated: "it engages you to be fully present while eating". So practical!

Absolutely no presence with your partner when you spend the whole time trying not to break something...although it would be an experience.

I'm really sorry but I don't see it. It seems something you have to pretend you're cool, you're worry about all this "sharing moments" stuff in front of your friends but something that you don't actually use just because is not comfortable. It's great you want to desing something to help people sharing things, time and nice chats but maybe this not the right thing to do it. Just an opinion, wanting to help :)
