Took mine a day at the age of four - a week later we went on our first bike tour together and she crashed over the front of the bike in the first 10 minutes and lost a tooth (helmet wasn't scratched at all). That was fun... The next day she wanted to go biking again - so we did.

Best way to teach a child to ride a bike is don’t bother with stabilisers. They serve no purpose because pedalling isn’t the hard bit to master. Instead buy a balance bike to start with or remove the pedals from their bike. Get them to scoot along and lift their feet up, coast down hill with their feet up, etc, until their balance is brilliant. Then put the pedals back. I feel like stabilisers is a sales trick that parents keep falling for because they don’t know any different.
