We rarely stop to think how some of our everyday habits could land us in the ER. But the truth is, some “harmless” things, like standing on a wobbly chair or skipping that seatbelt “just this once,” can go wrong in a flash. It’s easy to brush off risks with a “nothing’s happened before” mindset… until something does.

Today, we’ve compiled posts from people answering one serious question: “What’s something surprisingly dangerous most people overlook?” It’s not about fear; it’s about being smart. A tiny slip or careless habit could mean stitches, splints, or worse. Keep scrolling, and maybe rethink that next risky shortcut!

Scientists in a lab analyzing chemical formulas demonstrating seemingly harmless things that are actually dangerous risks. Science denial. It's not just a "difference of opinion"; it's ignoring facts, and it gets people k**led.

Especially innocent people. It's tragic enough when a person dies because they want to believe that thoughts and prayers will heal their cancer. But especially with vaccines it's parents (who often got their vaccines) who risk the lives of their children and that of everyone with a weak immune system. I would suggest that parents can only deny their child a vaccine after they have undergone the illness themselves. Show us, how "harmless" measles are.

Don't slander Christians by saying, "it's tragic enough when a person dies because they want to believe that thoughts and prayers will heal their cancer." No Christian sect (contrary to TV tropes not even Christian Scientists), believes people should use prayers as a substitute for medicine. You might find a nut here or there, but those same people would probably be relying on crystals or smoothies if they weren't Christians.

And science deniers are controlling the US government and will be responsible for the death of many people. It has already started with those kids in Texas because the weather service has been defunded. Who is the idiot who thought we do not need good weather prediction?

The NWS, who has been very vocal in it's complaints about the budget cuts, continues to state that the central texas office was prepared and adequately staffed. In fact there were 3 more staff members on shift than normal....in preparation for the extreme weather. This was a once in a thousand year storm, the river level rose by 26 feet in 45 minutes....weather warnings were going out for 2 days ahead of the flood, a state of emergency being issued the day before with the first flash flood warning specific to kerr going out hours ahead of time. They expected 9 inches of rain, it ended up being nearly double that. https://www.npr.org/2025/07/05/nx-s1-5457759/texas-floods-timeline The NWS did it's job, and it did it well. There's no amount of personnel or money that would have changed the outcome.

When I was 9 (when I was old enough to know what science was, but before I really had a filter) I was talking with a 13-year-old and I said something about science. He said (I still remember the exact wording) "Oh, my family doesn't really believe in science" (this was in a very Christian area). I said "well that's dumb" (again, I was 9) and then got yelled at by three different adults for "attacking his beliefs" and "not respecting their views / opinions". Oh, and I'm American, and that incident was my first taste of what's wrong with this country

'Science denial' is a very different thing from acknowledging the very real problems that are plaguing the scientific research world these days. It is so important that we don't shut down discussion about vested interests, non-reproducible results, pressure to publish etc.

Science denial is usually done for motives unrelated to science. That's how you spot it.

I've never had a desire to go back in time, but I'm beginning to wish we could return to the late 17th to early 19th century - the Age of Enlightenment (the Age of Reason), when Science was respected and people were curious for knowledge. Instead, I'm stuck in the Era of Idiots.

I'm 60 and was bullied for a while when I was in elementary school. A group of girls always pushed me around and chased me home. My older sister (middle school age) saw them chasing me home one day, stopped them and told them I was going to fight them one by one. Well, they pushed one girl towards me and I took all my rage and frustration out on her until the old man that owned the property we were on came out and yelled at us and broke up the fight. Know what? I was NEVER bothered again through the rest of my school years. Talking doesn't work. School suspension doesn't work. Punishment from parents doesn't usually work. Having their butt kicked by the victim usually DOES. No, violence isn't usually the answer, but these cases it can work wonders.

Bullies were an infrequent problem back in the 60's-70's, but there were older siblings or cousins who would put them in their place in rapid order. It was also a time of pre-social media, which I'm convinced has increased the problem.

And the thing about people who want to end their lives are either 1. They hide their pain very well, so know your tribe, or 2. When they start acting out or saying it out loud, act right away. Once a person commits to s*****e, it's too late. Their mind triggers the cue and it's like shock syndrome and they need immediate physical intervention. Too later for just words.

Person texting on a smartphone while driving a car, illustrating seemingly harmless things that are actually very dangerous. Driving.

So many people act like they are invincible and it's scary to think about. Daily, I see people texting, watching movies, putting on makeup, it is absolutely insane.

My cousin lost her arm in a car wreck. My brother was k****d when his friend lost control of the car and slammed head first into a utility pole. My childhood friend was k****d going 75 mph in a head on collision on the highway because a drunk was going the wrong way at 4am. It was an open casket, it haunts me to this day.

Just today I saw a kid cut off 4 cars because they couldn't wait 30 seconds for the protected turn, and my wife's boss was in a wreck this morning (the other guy thought stop signs were a suggestion) on his way to work and had to go to the hospital (he is fine).

You are literally driving a 1.5 ton death machine. People need to act more responsible.

If you're capable, do the maths. Is speeding worth the 3 minutes you're at home earlier? Is cutting others of the 2 seconds you'll gain by ending in front of them at the traffic light? Germany is specifically car-nuts, and lots of psychological research has been done. Basically, they found out that cars are the early internet: people felt anonymous, so they felt they could do what they want. The other one wasn't a human, it was a metal box, so empathy went down. And like an opinion online, the car became their status and p***s symbol (b***s, for the ladies, although wayyyyy less frequent) and they "defended their (wo)manhood".

Whether you’re hiking through the woods or splashing around in the sea, one thing stays constant: safety doesn’t take a vacation. It’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of outdoor adventures, but even a fun day under the sun needs a little caution sprinkled in.

From loose rocks on trails to unpredictable waves at the beach, risks are always part of the deal. That’s why being a little prepared can make all the difference. A good trip is a safe trip.

Then someone who had been drinking at a party pulled out in front of me. The bike hit the side of the car and I somersaulted over the bonnet. While I was being checked out by concerned passers-by, she left the scene. I will never forgive her.

Yeah, can get ugly but depends a lot on the motorbike and how you drive. Big bike, very fast = bad. Small bike, not to fast = better. Also, the older you are the smaller and slower your bike should be, you do not react that quick anymore. I am driving small motorbikes 125 cc for almost 30 years now and could so far avoid accidents. But a few years more i cange to scooter

Drowning doesn’t look like drowning in our mythology of what it should look like. A drowning person doesn’t struggle, but sinks. I’d never known that but when my eldest, who knew how to swim, was about four and jumped into a hotel pool. I knew I had to pull her out of there just by instinct or something. She was on the bottom of the pool and waving her arms around. I had to shove by several women who were just standing around. For years afterwards my daughter would ask me why I pulled her out of the pool. It was the strangest thing that I recognized it, and she recognized that something bad was happening.

Now, when it comes to staying safe in the water, we turned to someone who knows it inside out, Mi Chung. He’s not just a seasoned pro swimmer and lifeguard but someone who’s basically grown fins at this point. With years of scanning the surf and diving into rescues, his take on water safety is pretty clear: don’t mess around.

“Be a confident swimmer before heading deep,” Mi says, “and always swim with others.” Sounds basic, right? But it’s amazing how often people dive in solo and unprepared. He stresses that swimming with a buddy isn’t just for kids; it’s a golden rule even adults should follow. It adds a safety net and, honestly, makes the experience more fun.

Was head of safety at my work and the guys made fun of how much I harped on this. Then one of them sliced his leg open, nearly hitting a major artery. They stopped making fun of me when he told them he almost died from a box cutter.

Two dogs aggressively fighting outdoors, illustrating seemingly harmless things that are actually very dangerous. Dog bites. Dog fights. Letting your off-leash dogs approach on-leash dogs.

A lot of people base their knowledge around dogs from what they've gleaned in BuzzFeed articles and TV shows and movies. They anthropomorphize their dogs to the extent that their dogs suffer for it.

I could write an essay about this - I love discussing it. But it's understandably unpopular to talk about.

    Carrierpigment:

People forget that dogs can easily k**l/maim you, if they want.

I was a groomer for ten years and I can tell you, ALL DOGS BITE, it’s just their threshold of tolerance that determines if or when they will. The amount of times I heard “he doesn’t bite” is astounding, I like to reply with “well then how does he eat?!”

It takes a lot of observation and real knowledge (from reputable sources) to recognize when a dog may bite. It ruins a lot of “cute” videos and pictures of dogs, that’s for sure.

Oh I hate it, I have huskies, we take them out on leads and meet dog off lead daily and we more often than not have to shout at people asking them to put their dog on a lead, the reply we get is "well my dog is fine/calm/nice" Happy hecking day, mine won't be with yours!

I have never and will never understand this mentality from people! Just because your dog is fine/calm/nice doesn't meant the dog it's running up to will be! If you're in a leash required area then your dog needs to be on a leash! It's not that hard. And I'm sorry but these owners can see that the owner of the leashed dog is actively trying to move or block their dog and still laugh and say "Oh don't worry Fifi is so friendly!" Yeah well Fifi's gonna get kicked so my dog doesn't do worse and then get blamed for it because you couldn't be bother to control little miss Fifi.

My family had a Maremman Shepherd who was the most loving giant ball of fluff ever, but only with the family. Everyone else was a threat to her, she was traumatized because she was abûsed before we found her abandoned on the side of the road and adopted her. We always went out with her on a leash and with a muzzle on, and everytime we encountered the occasional uninformed person who was like "poor doggie isn't it cruel to put a muzzle on her?" No it's not, i know my dog, you don't, i don't want to have to put her down because you think every dog is like those "cute doggos" you see on tiktok. She never bit anyone in her 13 years of life because we were responsible. Don't presume every dog is friendly with strangers/other dogs.

I got bit through (as in a HOLE) the face by a friendly "they don't bite, they're just playing" dog as a child. My mom taught me to reply to "the dog's friendly" with "Well, I'm not" after that. Keep your dog leashed.

That’s terrifying! Something similar happened to my dad when he was younger. He was biking when he was a toddler and a dog came up and bit him in the leg. I’m okay with dogs, but when they run up to me without a lead and barking, I don’t care how “friendly” they are, it’s scary!

I have 3 sausage dogs and one of my pet hates is parents with small children thinking it's okay to let their kids pet my dogs. They think they can't do any harm just because they're little. Drives me crazy. Also Weenies can be quite reactive little dogs so when they see dogs off leash coming to them they can go beserk.

A neighbor had a basenji that she would always walk off-leash. They are very territorial and protective. The dog was out in the driveway and rushed up to us when I was walking by with my big mutt (on a leash). My dog gave his usual non-threatening greeting signals and that dang little thing lunged for his throat. I got between him and my dog and I swear if the owner hadn't called him off I would have kicked him in the head. Nobody hurts my sweet, goofy boy! LEASH YOUR DOGS, PEOPLE!

Since I was a kid and a big dog that I never met before put its front legs on my shoulders (it was on a leash and the owners just laughed it off) I have been very very careful around dogs. I am very aware that to the owners their dog is just the little fluffball of love and happiness -but it is in fact a predatory animal and it will k**l you if it feels like it. Sure, it's partly my trauma still living in me, but I have not been proven wrong yet. I was about 6yo when it happened and I still think of dogs as predators. I have known a few dogs in my life and I liked them.... but I was STILL aware that they were predators.

They make sunblock sleeves for sports players like golfers and triathletes to use. They're not expensive and they take up less room than a pair of gloves. I keep a pair in my purse in case I'm unexpectedly outside for more time than I expected to be. Sunblock wears off, or you forget to reapply, and it's not 100% no matter how careful you are.

I’m nearly sixty, nearly never wear sun cream, seem to have Scandinavian type Caucasian skin as I have only ever burnt twice in my life (both times my back was exposed for a whole afternoon, one of those times I was 12). People are always surprised that I am the age I am, they say I look much younger. I know people that say they have to wear factor 50 indoors because they will get burnt by the winter sun coming through the windows. I think this means something is wrong or out of balance. No way were our ancestors unable to cope with sun touching their skin (putting global climate chaos aside for a moment)

Read the packet, observe the maximum dose information that's written on it. Don't take different brands of painkiller without checking if they're the same active ingredient, then observe the maximum dose for all of them combined.

    Roxy222uk

6 months ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

The important amount is how much you have within 24 hours. It will say on the packet. The aspirin box right next to me, on the back, states that one dose is 1-3 tablets and not to take more than 4 doses (max 12) in 24 hours. It doesn’t matter if you take three and then take three two hours later as long as you don’t exceed your 24 hour dose. And in particular paracetamol (which I **think** is the same as acetaminophen???) where harm can be achieved quickly and easily, read other over the counter medication to see whether they also contain paracetamol. There’s no coming back from that over dose. Feel very ill, then feel better for about four days, then die of liver failure. Strangely, if people stick to the dose guidance paracetamol is actually very safe with low risk of side effects.

Visit a knowledgeable physician. I’ve been on morphine sulfate ER several times as well as hydrocodone/ Norco with Tylenol. I don't get addicted to anything, so morphine has been a safe option. There are more choices than morphineike Celebrex, Low Dose Naloxone, meloxicam, and ketamine. (Don’t do Ketamine like Elon, though, since he’s an idiot.) After my 2nd lumbar surgery I went to a pain practice that didn't prescribe opiates but had several options. I know what it’s like to have chronic pain. The most recent pain provider I had shuttered their practice. I decided to forgo opioids for a while even though I have pain in various places without it.

I’ve read many of J. A. Konrath’s Jack Daniels thrillers, and it pīsses me off that the protagonist takes multiple ibuprofen, several Tylenol (acetaminophen/paracetamol) later the same day, and even aspirin. Sometimes, she even “dry swallows” them. She’s been prescribed opíoids but plays hero rather than take them. Lesseee, what’s worse—one 10/325 (10mg Norčo and 325 mg acetaminophen ) or five 500 mg Tylenol? A misunderstanding about opióids - prescribed or illicit - is that people take them to get high. No, people often take them to function and feel normal, and for some reason, that can compel them to increase their dosęs. Héroin was initially marketed as a drùg that was less addictivé than other forms like laudanùm. I believe it’s also one where people tend to chase the hígh they experienced the first time, but it doesn't work . Patients should be educated about the possibility of dependence and addīction. If they do they should be assisted in weaning not tossed out and ignored

Lots of bad info here. NSAIDs screw up the kidneys. Acetaminophen screws up the liver. Kidneys don’t recover, but livers can. Use both in moderation, if possible. However, in the US at least, if you’re in chronic pain you likely won’t get more than NSAIDs or Acetaminophen unless you have cancer

Rip currents? Yep, they’re scary but absolutely survivable if you know what to do. Mi explains, “Rip currents are strong, narrow streams of water that rush away from the shore and can sweep swimmers out fast. Don’t try to fight it head-on. Instead, swim parallel to the shoreline. That simple move could save your life.”

Think of it like escaping through the side door instead of slamming into a wall. You won’t win a battle against the ocean; it’s like arguing with gravity. Totally exhausting, and totally avoidable.

Any mains electrical work needs to be tested on completion according to the regulations to ensure that it's safe. If you've not got the training and the equipment, you cannot do so. You might *think* you've done a proper job, but you cannot possibly tell without testing. Hire a professional.

Used to work on a mains/standby generator system for a telecom station. Someone once got a chrome steel spanner crossed between the busbars (thick copper bars carrying hundreds of amps current at 400 volts). The spanner melted and blew molten steel all over. CP: "just shut it off"? How do you know that it's off and is going to stay off? My house has two separately fused ring mains - except that they're not fully separate. The return (neutral) wiring is interconnected. My house needs fully rewiring. Also, any work done on mains electrical circuits needs testing on completion to ensure that it's safe. That testing must be done in accordance with the regulations, using calibrated test gear. You don't know the regulations and you don't have the test gear.

There is absolutely no place to go when riding the metrolink in St. Louis. Not on the train, not any of the stops. I did not know this and got on at Hanley, made it to grand before things went all bad. was headed downtown to a concert. Good Times. I have to go much more frequently now so I know I messed something up. Don't strain your sphincters people.

Yeah, not so sure. When you are on morphin, you get constipated, and often remain clogged for a couple of days. Not an issue.

And let’s not forget our responsibility toward marine life. “Don’t litter, ever,” Mi says with urgency. “Bottles, plastics, wrappers, they don’t vanish. They choke sea creatures and ruin ecosystems.” Every wrapper counts. Every careless toss adds to a growing problem beneath the waves.

but it's also naturally occuring in lychee rinds, as a product on olives caused by fungi, and several species of algae. Some studies on animals have found it caused increased number of tumors, but more have found it doesn't and just as many other studies have shown it causes a decrease in cancer. Many people regard many of these European prohibitions against preservatives as a form of protectionism, since they make it more difficult to transport spoilable foods over significant distances and thus give advantages to locally produced food.

When I worked as a nutritional therapist we had not one but two separate clients that had to be hospitalised for drinking too much water. We never told them to do that, they got the idea it was healthy because has been pushed for a long time without warnings. After the second time we learnt to actively warn people. Both of our ill clients had been drinking about 8 pints a day, which is about 4 litres. There has never been a death due to dehydration at a major sports event, but there have been deaths due to water toxicity. I get so cross when I hear people parroting ‘by the time you feel thirsty it’s already too late’. The first time I heard that it was obviously cråp, I have no idea why people go along with it. If our bodies had evolved so that it didn’t tell us we needed to drink water until after damage had already been done then we’d have died out not just thousands of years ago but millions. What a fūcking ridiculous claim.

If you are thursty, drink if you aren't then don't drink. If you had worked out or if it is hot and you feel hungry, try a glass of water first as you might be rehydrated. I work out a lot, drink just about 2-2.5 l a day and that is enough for me. I was told before, that if your pee is not yellow anymore, that means you have had to much to drink, if it is dark borderline orange, then you haven't drunk enough.

I had heatstroke from a combination of the heat and trying to fight it off with drinking water. I live in a high zone, but was visiting the Midwest and was drinking with my basic habit. That’s a problem because there’s a lot of insensible water loss, especially in high and dry areas. My dog got me to safety because she recognized something was happening. Just like with heat stroke, it was a long time before I could easily tip over into an electrolyte imbalance. I still carry sugar and salt packets with a Neti pot or little restaurant-sized salt packets. Adding just salt isn’t as helpful as salt and a sugar of some sort. The reason for seizures with water intoxication is that your brain is trying to get enough salt, but it has to carry in too much water to get that sodium.

"The only symptom I have now is that I randomly start laughing and I have odd facial expressions sometimes. I have emotional issues but I think I had those even before my brain damage. I also had failing grades in middle school (injury was in sixth grade) but that was mostly because I was discouraged and didn’t try. In elementary school, high school and college I had half A’s and half B’s, though I did fail three classes in college. They were marked as W not F though, so my GPA was fine."

Young couple playfully holding red chili peppers as mustaches in a kitchen setting illustrating seemingly harmless things that are dangerous. Hot peppers.

"Hey, for this latest dumb as f**k tik-tok challenge I'm going to eat five Carolina Reapers whole!"

Yeah, a Jalapeno is about around 5000 on the scoville scale. A Carolina reaper is around 2.5 million... which is slap bang in the middle of law-enforcement grade pepper spray territory.

There's a curry house in Scotland called Kismot Curry that sells allegedly the world's hottest curry containing the five hottest peppers in the world. It has literally put several people in hospital...and they still sell it.

I love spicy, i grow reapers and ghost peppers, make my own hot sauce, i have a bottle of "ghost pepper mash" that's used as an additive to just about everything. It very much takes time to build up to that kind of tolerance, but there is very much a difference between Sauces that are hot, and dishes that contain whole, very hot peppers. It doesn't matter how hot a sauce is really, it will be uncomfortable for sure, but it's not particularly dangerous. The dangerous bit is when people put a whole, or even piece of a pepper in their mouth, realize they're out of their depth and not wanting to w**s out, opt to swallow it without chewing. That is what causes problems. Instead of the heat being absorbed by mouth and throat mostly before it hits your stomach....swallowing pepper without chewing it causes the heat to just sit in your gut and intestines....if something is too hot, spit it out. Otherwise chew that $hit at least a dozen times before you swallow it.

If you cut the avocado in quarters from stem to root, you can easily pop the pit out without a knife. I use a bit of paper towel, as the pit is slippery. As a bonus, this method makes it easy to peel the skin from the fruit.

An oil leak in a high pressure system.

When looking for the leak, use anything but your hands. The fluid, if it is injected into your body, will require surgery to immediately remove the affected area.

Motorway driving. I feel like a lot of city dwellers just don’t know how to do it. They do ridiculous things like barging onto the motorway, not making room for people trying to join the motorway/when lanes merge, leaving the kind of space between cars that you’d leavd driving around the city, hogging the middle lanes, indicating/breaking at the very last minute, going considerably below the speed limit for no reason, driving a car that really isn’t motorway safe, letting their dogs stick their head out of the window and so on.

Er? Where I come from, it's deeply rural people who are less likely to have practice motorway driving, on account of not living anywhere near a motorway. Here in the UK, motorways are how you drive from city to city. I live in an urban district and I get to the supermarket along a motorway. Annual MOT checks mean that pretty much all cars in the UK are motorway safe. German driving test standards and German car safety checks mean German drivers and cars are even more Autobahn safe.

I think we may have learned an unknown fear of yours Windy. Any type of infection can potentially lead to sepsis. Sepsis is when the body's response to an infection goes into overdrive. When the body detects an infection or injury our immune system tries to fight it off. With sepsis this immune response becomes excessive and out of control, leading to wide spread inflammation and damage to the organs.

I'm a late menopausal person. My amazing Gynecologist says most IUDs are approved for over 5 years now so you don't have to go every 2 or 3 like I did.

Flying small aircraft. I used to fly small planes for fun and transportation. Then one of my friends at work, someone who I used to fly with, died in a small planed crash. I had been flying for years at the time but I didn’t fully understand the danger. Flying in small aircraft is 10X more dangerous than driving. And that’s on a mile per mile comparison. Small jets piloted by professionals are very safe, airlines are extraordinarily safe, but small planes flown by hobbyists... not so much.

All fish that is to be served raw must be frozen to a certain standard by law in the EU and UK. Also, this person seems to have made the common mistake of thinking that sushi=sashimi.

***Hot Water Tanks.*** They're the most dangerous appliance in your house. I actually built an aluminum enclosure around mine just in case it ruptures. I also keep it on a timer and have the thermostat set a bit lower than "typical." I'm paranoid about those things.

HWTs can explode like a small bomb, sending scaldingly-hot water and debris flying. They can take out walls and severely injure or k**l you if you are nearby. Flush 'em annually and turn your temp down a little bit- most are set to a scalding level which isn't even necessary. Sediment buildup can clog pressure relief valves.

Copied and pasted from the other HWT comment... In 2022 there were two water heaters in the USA that failed due to this. Not worth caring about, IMO. I work in the compressed gas industry, which is similar, and the failure rates are so low, and are typically not catastrophic failures.

And chlorine. The smell is a result of the ammonia in urine reacting with the chlorine compounds used to clean it, so at least you know that it's being properly treated and anything nasty in said urine will be killed.

Not getting a root canal can lead to the Infection getting to the brain, especially the upper teeth which are conveniently located near the highway of the sinuses. It's called the triangle of de@th for a reason.

I've worked in the dental field for many years and I wouldn't get a root canal. I'd have the tooth pulled and replaced with an implant. I've been in oral surgery for most my career and we pull so many root canalled teeth. The patient spends literally thousands of dollars getting the tooth root canalled, built up and crowned (they automatically crown those teeth because they get so brittle after the root canal). Then the dead tooth inevitably gets a crack into the root, which leads to bacteria leaking into said crack, which leads to bone loss. A lot of the time the bone loss is significant because the patient doesn't know what's going on (thanks to not having feeling in that tooth due to the root canal) so the process is happening for months or years. Then by the time we pull it the bone loss has affected our ability to place an implant or makes us place the implant in a suboptimal position.

It's easier for me to say, because I've reached my 50s and have a good part of my nice life behind me, but a certain fatalism seems appropriate. Yes, you can prolong your life by just sitting in your room, doing exercise there, and basically do nothing. But what do you want - to exist or to live?

CJD is not from cow meat - that is Bovine Spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) caused by a prion. CJD is a naturally occuring prion disease found in humans, typically spread by contaminated equipment. Ultimately, same result of death, but technically different diseases. (Source: infectious disease specialist).

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) received public attention in the 1990s when some people in the United Kingdom became sick with a form of the disease. They developed variant CJ, known as vCJD, after eating meat from diseased cattle. However, most cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease haven't been linked to eating beef. All types of CJD are serious but are very rare. About 1 to 2 cases of CJD are diagnosed per million people around the world each year. The disease most often affects older adults. ~Mayo Clinic
