Heartbreak can feel a lot like grief, affecting both our emotions and everyday lives

Breakups are never easy, right, pandas? But imagine having your entire future planned with someone, only for them to suddenly walk away. It’s not just the relationship you’re losing. It’s also the plans, routines, and dreams you built together. And when you’re left trying to figure out what went wrong, even getting through an ordinary day can feel exhausting.

In fact, Psychology Today explains that heartbreak can feel a lot like grief. People may experience sadness, anger, anxiety, and even physical symptoms like headaches, fatigue, or disrupted sleep. After all, emotional stress doesn’t always stay in our heads. It can affect our bodies, too.

Thankfully, friends and family can make these difficult moments a little easier. Whether it’s showing up with comfort food, sending funny memes, or simply listening, having someone around can mean a lot. Of course, not everyone wants advice when they’re heartbroken. Sometimes, being given the space to process your feelings is just as important.

And while there’s no magical way to get over a breakup, it can also be an opportunity to reconnect with yourself. As Boundless discusses, healing involves more than moving on from someone. It’s also about rediscovering who you are outside the relationship. Maybe there’s a hobby you’ve neglected, a friendship you want to reconnect with, or a personal goal you’ve been putting off.

Taking care of yourself after heartbreak matters, even when you don’t feel like it

Another important part of healing is rebuilding your self-worth. Breakups can leave people questioning whether they were good enough or what they could’ve done differently. But here’s something worth remembering: someone else’s decision to leave doesn’t determine your value. And you shouldn’t have to prove your worth to someone who no longer wants to be with you.

Of course, looking after yourself during a breakup isn’t just about your emotional well-being. Taking care of your body matters just as much, especially when it comes to what you’re eating. Let’s talk about food for a moment. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying your favorite ice cream after a breakup. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you feel like having! But relying on emotional eating to cope with difficult feelings can become an unhealthy habit.

After all, breakups can be incredibly stressful, and stress can affect our eating habits in different ways. Some people lose their appetite entirely, while others find themselves reaching for sugary snacks or comfort food more often. In fact, a 2023 research review explored the connection between emotional eating, stress, and anxiety. And while food might offer temporary comfort, it doesn’t necessarily address what’s causing the distress.

So, it’s worth finding other ways to cope with those overwhelming feelings, too. Whether it’s calling a friend, going for a walk, journaling, or spending time doing something you enjoy, little things can help make difficult days more manageable. After all, healing from heartbreak isn’t about feeling better overnight. It’s about gradually finding ways to look after yourself, both emotionally and physically.

Coming back to today’s story, the man had been devastated when his fiancée left him for someone else. Just as he was moving forward with his life, she returned and asked for financial help. After everything he’d been through, it’s understandable why he wasn’t eager to get involved in her problems again. At the end of the day, moving on from heartbreak doesn’t mean you have to forget what happened or welcome someone back simply because they need you. Sometimes, protecting your peace means knowing when to say no.

What do you think, pandas? Would you help an ex who broke your heart if they suddenly came back asking for money? Or would you rather leave that chapter closed? Let us know in the comments below!

People reassured the man that he wasn’t at fault and had every right to stand his ground

No "friend" would want someone to give money to an ex-fiance.

Those friends should pool their money to help her if they're so concerned. She made her bed years ago and OP wasn't part of it then, isn't part of it now.

Not one rusty penny. Just assume this is her luring you into a financial trap.
