What started as a passion for doodling in the margins of her middle school notebooks turned into a desire to tell illustrated, dark stories of challenges and triumphs. New York artist, Rachel Sharp’s artwork has always stood out among her peers. “I’m a self-taught artist but I have taken helpful art classes in high school and college. My art style comes from my biggest inspiration – cartoons,” said Rachel.
Creativity is in Rachel’s DNA. She comes from a long line of creatives; her grandmother, mother and father are accomplished photographers and her sister is a singer and actress. Rachel discovered her artistic talent at a very young age – the moment she picked up a pencil, her passion for drawing bloomed.
The talented young artist divides her creativity between her two passions, art and photography. Both art forms inspire and influence the other. Rachel’s work, whether illustrations or photographs cast a light on dark, engaging tales. Her current and most popular series character is ‘Petey the Plague Doctor’ who is on a journey of grief, healing and friendship. Rachel’s future artistic plans include expanding her illustrated story lines and discovering new, dark locations to photograph.
