On February 5th, 2023, thousands of people took to the streets of Madrid, Spain, to protest the lack of progress on the Animal Welfare Act, which excludes hunting dogs. How AWFUL that an "Animal Welfare Act" can exclude some dogs based on breed or type!
Unfortunately, similar things happen in the USA with "Breed Specific Legislation" that focuses on bully breeds, even though most of them that are treated with kindness and love by their owners are a LOT less likely than some other breeds, like chihuahuas and golden retrievers, to bite people.

Thank you, it's about time people put a stop to the way these poor dogs are treated. Being bred just to be hunted and killed for sport is in-humane in the most heinous way
Dogs are used to flush and retrieve prey. Dogs themselves are not hunted. They are often mistreated especially if they fail, and the cramped cages are ...theoretically ...to encourage the dogs to run swiftly in the field. It's a stupid, inhumane practice.

This is why we have a flood of Podencos and Galgos in Germany. They are lucky if they get thrown over the wall into a shelter. It's a f*****g shame what is done to them. Even if they are of no use to their owner there are better ways to get rid of them than hanging, starving ....

Around our house (we live in Spain), twice a year there are a group of hunters to control the numbers of wild boars, rabbits and hares. I always make sure they know we see them and their dogs and in the days after the hunt we always pay extra attention to the sounds and environment around were they were, we always check to see if no dogs were left behind. So far they were all treated well and went home with their owners.

To anyone distressed and frustrated by the abuse these lovely dogs go through (and often meeting a nasty end) you are right to feel so and there is something you can do! Other than sharing and spreading the word, there are plenty of charities in place that rescue and adopt into Spain and other countries. Please consider funding even if you cannot adopt yourself.
