This Photographer Keeps Surprising The Internet With The Backstage Of His Photos
Have you ever wondered how long does it take for a professional photographer prepare a picture for a "public eye"? What are the steps that need to be taken before publishing that final, satisfying result? Everything‘s not so easy, and Brazilian photographer Gilmar Silva decided to prove it (previously here).
A while ago, this professional wedding and family photographer started a brilliant behind-the-scenes series, that he called LUGARxPHOTO ("place and photo"), that shows the backstage of professional photoshoots. First picture always shows the "working environment" of the photographer, and the second one reveals the final result which is sometimes hard to believe. The aim of the project is to talk not only about the amount of Photoshop that comes into play, but also to analyze the right angles and techniques that are used to get those perfect shots. Did he flip the picture as well? From his position, the girl would be on the right side of the photo, not the left.

No, the guy there isn’t the photographer. It’s a guy holding the flash (behind the couple). The photo was taken from the other side.

You mean the secret behind the scenes of having a girl in a concrete pipe is that you put the girl into the concrete pipe. I'd never have though that was how you'd do it.

My best friend is a professional photographer, she even went to college for it. And not every picture you see, both here and elsewhere, has been photoshopped. They have to learn how to use lighting, both natural and false. They have to learn how best to use different angles and different filters. Then there are distances for perspective and perception. And then there is the subject of the photos, the props, backgrounds, etc. It takes a lot to know how to do all of that. Now, I'm not saying people don't use photoshop, because most do. Photoshop is a whole other skill, and many are experts with it. But, what do you think people did before photoshop? They relied on their talent and their skills. A truly talented photographer can create a picture that looks like a piece of art, without photoshop.

Must be a strong a*s light on that flash light to give off a blue ray from that distance lol especially with all that natural light already coming through lol. This "mind blowing-crazy-never done before-originality" in photography must be the new fad everyone is going to try hahaha

I love this one too. How does he make pregnant women look so beautiful?? I was miserable for most of my pregnancy, and I hated the way I looked. But all of these pregnant women and some of the pregnant women I see IRL look so beautiful

I loved being being pregnant, even my twin pregnancy which came with bedrest, preterm labor and gestational diabetes. I felt beautiful and I also thought constantly about how amazing the human body is.

I think it's beautiful. And I'm proud of her for posing while breastfeeding. Because it is a naturally beautiful part of life, and too many people freak out over it and see it as a sexual thing. The reason women have breast is to feed babies, the fact that guys like them is a bonus.

The lower legs are really foreshortened and her face seems tense. IMO, she just looks really uncomfortable. I like the colors in this one though. I dunno.

Most people think of these posts in a negative way, saying that photographers are fake and their talent is not from photography but editing later but I think this just shows how creative and talented photographers really are. They come up with so many unusual ways to make their photographs amazing and then touch it up on their laptops afterwards.

What I see is a creative mind at work. Yes, reflections and light and low angles make for a fabulous photo. That tidepool? The wagon? The exit wall at the train ride at the zoo (or whatever it was)? It takes a creative mind to see the possibilities. Kudos!
