Skittles Releases White Candies For Pride Month, And Internet’s Reaction Is Not What They Expected
If you walk into your local convenience store and notice that the packs of Skittles have turned white, don’t worry, you’re not tripping out, because for the second year running, Mars has ditched the iconic Skittles rainbow in honor of Pride Month.
“Only one rainbow flag matters this pride. Give the rainbow, taste the rainbow,” explains the back of the white Skittles bag. And as you can see below, it isn’t just the packaging that’s lost its color – the pride Skittles are all white too! Great fun if you like a bit of mystery in your candy; not so much fun if you hate a particular flavor. The vibrant confectionery first ditched its colors for 2016 London Pride. Still, while many people consider it to be a fun and harmless marketing campaign and an attempt to raise social awareness, not everybody agrees, and some have even complained that it’s racist. We’ve compiled the best comments that the Internet had to share on this topic below. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

Immediately after release some people started complaining that the campaign was discriminatory
While other weren’t happy that they couldn’t identify their favourite flavours
But mostly the company received positive feedback, saying it was brilliant and supportive

I'm seriously getting tired of this c**p. Everyone getting all offended for no damn reason "omg they picked white color, white supremacists! They hate blacks!" You can't do or say anything with white lately because you're instantly a racists who thinks "white" is more superior or whatever... Really have to think on what you say or do these days because there will always be someone offended by it, even if you're trying to do good -_-
It's come to the point where if I like a white shirt better than a black shirt, Im racist, which compares me to murderous white supremacists
Load More Replies...Seriously? In additive color mixing, like light, all the colors combined create white. Consider a prism and imagine the process in reverse. It's a wonderful message!
Actually, all the colors combined make black. Which is why if you black on a sunny day, you're hotter- the color absorbs ALL of the colors. White, however, rejects ALL of the colors. I guess you skipped that day in physics class, huh? Anyway, it's called a marketing ploy. The only reason the skittles aren't black is because people wouldn't wanna eat them supposedly. (I would, but I'm gothic like that.) It's just to sell more candy. I'm unconcerned here about the racial connotations because people are extra sometimes... I don't like that it's supposed to mean inclusiveness in color, but I think the whole message goes over people's heads. Skittles without colors, are just...skittles...and if you couldn't judge until you "tasted" each person, like a skittle, then it'd be harder to judge. But it isn't that simple. People judge on size, shape, and everything else.
Load More Replies...If you combine all the rainbow colors, it makes white. No problem with that. Or maybe the light spectrum is racist, who knows ? I guess they wanted to represent unification. There's no reason to be offended.
My guess is: White in this case means 'no color at all'. They couldn't make the skittles see through so the next best option was white.
Load More Replies...To me, white is more a representation to the lack of color. Plus, wouldn't it be a lot more artificial coloring to make black skittles? Just a thought. I don't eat skittles much anyway. I really think the thought behind this was in the right place.
The concept and final product is awesome. The people who made the stuoid comments about this being racist should stop playing the victim card and doing something productive instead. Or now they will say that when a kid is given a blank drawing and is asked to color de image, they will call that racism? Ask a child to color a black or brown page to see what happens.
It does look kind of cool, though. Only it looks like medication lol
Load More Replies...This is ridiculous. Why are people offended an saying it's racist? Next it'll be feminists getting offended about grammatical gender.
blueagua, don't be so offended, there are different kinds of feminism and some of them are clearly crazy.
Load More Replies...It's the color white considered a universal color of peace? I mean you wave a white flag to surrender, the United Nations logo is a white globe on a blue background.
People will always find something to complain about - it's not even about racism guys - it's about PRIDE month. Skittles are just supporting that not being racist... agree with Laury, you might as well complain about paper being white normally... and I might as well complain that at night the sky is black and that must mean mother nature is probably racist too...
I really don't like your comment. I think it is unfair and inaccurate. I am highly offended. I don't think people complain too much. If anything I think they are too complacent. Like you! Not that I am complaining. But I do find you comment sufficiently offensive on the very serious and important topic that I will be lodging a formal and perhaps legal complaint in hopes of having your account and perhaps you entirely deleted.
Load More Replies...In color theory, white is all the colors of the rainbow and black is the absence of all color. This was actually quite clever.
