As a PR student and intern at a well-known PR company, seeing how the managers handled the Phantom of the Opera made me cringe. So here are the mistakes they made along with what they could have done differently:

1. Thinking the Phantom was a scam, a joke…you name it.

TIP: Always verify the information you hear and don’t just blow it off especially if it’s from multiple tags.

2. Thinking they could handle this on their own. Pride comes before a fall, or in this case, a chandelier crash! To avoid making such an expensive mistake, they should have worked with Madame Giry (and the Persian in the book) along with the Phantom.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to ask for and accept help.

3. Work with the Phantom. Erik has been here longer than the new managers and knows the ins and outs of the jobs.

TIP: Work with the veterans and ask them to show you the ropes.

4. This goes along with 3: Accept criticism and improve. Instead of trying to juggle the publicity along with casting and selecting operas, they should have let Erik handle the casting and selection of operas and only worked on the publicity aspect.

TIP: Delegate, delegate, delegate!

5. . Instead of freaking out about the Phantom of the Opera, these daft bimbos should have accepted his advice and used that as a chance to further their careers and create positive publicity!

TIP: Turn lemons into lemonades.
