A Shocking Campaign Uses Graphic Images To Point Out The Damage That Plastic Pollution Has On The Ocean’s Wildlife
79Kviews
You might not think using one plastic fork on your lunch break could cause a dramatic impact on the globe but if you imagine all 7.7 billion people do that as well – the picture is quite terrifying. To put it simply we are drowning in plastic waste.
On the bright side, it seems like lately more people are interested in saving our planet simply because more people are aware of environmental threats and climate change and also the fact that we are a big part of the problem. All the inspiring stories of positive environmental movements worldwide, including the viral #trashtag challenge, inspire us to join the fight for a brighter future.
Yet another attempt to fight the ignorance and ensure a better tomorrow is the international non-profit organization Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS), which aims to conserve and protect ecosystems and ocean animals by battling the destruction of marine wildlife. The group teamed up with Tribal Worldwide São Paulo and DDB Guatemala advertising agencies to implement a shocking plastic pollution awareness campaign. 3D posters depict two marine animals – a turtle and a seal – suffering from the horrifying consequences of ocean pollution and convey an eye-opening message: “The plastic you use once tortures the oceans forever”.

“Unfortunately, a small and thoughtless action in our daily life can cause huge damage to nature without us even realizing it. In this ad campaign, we aim to remedy this by reaching the largest number of people possible, bringing awareness to the fact that with small and easy steps, we can ensure that terrible scenes like these do not happen,” Guiga Giacomo, Executive Creative Director at Tribal Worldwide São Paulo, said was the idea behind the social ad campaign.

Sea Shepherd gives valuable insight on the dangerous impact that plastic has on the oceans, provides useful tips on how to reduce the use of plastic in our everyday lives, and carries out beach clean-up campaigns “Operation Clean Waves” around the world – all while working with scientists on making a bigger change. “Scientists warn that in 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish in the sea,” informs Sea Shepherd founder and president Captain Paul Watson, “Sea Shepherd is committed to preventing this from happening – because if the oceans die, we die.”

So upsetting, not much more to say really, we have destroyed this planet, if humans went extinct every other living thing, sentient and non-sentient would benefit. We are a toxic parasite.
I don't know, we weren't around for the ice age or the extinction of the dinosaurs, so I'm pretty sure the planet is still a cruel place even without humans.
Yes but that wasn't caused by human intervention.
Good rebuttal, but take into consideration that chemicals have been dumped into waterways, and likely still are. And weird pointless chemicals are put into and onto products most people use every day. If you ever watch documentaries, watch these three: A Plastic Ocean; The Devil We Know; Stink! I've had some trouble getting to sleep at night, wondering how these things will affect myself and my husband (our oldest son has a tumor on his heart), but it has changed the way I see things.
That's not entirely true... If humans all of a sudden just stopped existing all at once, the world would be a lot worse. Many organisms have grown to rely on us. Corn for example, before corn it was maize and didn't need humans to grow. Think about it, have you ever seen corn - the type that you eat - that isn't grown on a farm? And how about cows? There are so many at each place. The cows would die out, but first leaving methane and grass scraped bare, or for the ones that are not grass fed, would just die. Finally, we also have a lot of toxic waste that we have left, and even if we did die out, the toxic waste could continue to harm animals.
The corn is not necessary, nor are the cows. They are only mass produced for human consumption. The methane would dissipate in time and the grass would grow back. Things would right themselves.
Nope. We are a virus. Not worthy of the planet. Nice try on the useless corn thing though. Kind of illustrates my point.
The planet would sort itself out without us, it would be a cycle, things would have to grow and die and repeat but it would be fine.
What about bacteria / viruses / parasites that only live on / in humans?
OMG, this is totally turning into a Liberals vs Conservatives argument! Can't we all just get along!!! :)

I don't thing that blindly shame human species is the right approach to the problem. How do propose to make human extinction? Do you have any other solution?

Speak for yourself Hoff. Sheesh.
Reality! More than 12 million tonnes of plastic waste is washed into the ocean every year.
https://www.craftbeer.com/editors-picks/saltwater-brewery-creates-edible-six-pack-rings This is really cool, it actually feeds the wildlife!
