Mother Encourages Her Two-year-old Who Was Born With A White Streak In Her Hair To Embrace Her Uniqueness

Interview With Author

This little girl was born with a unique and beautiful feature that most of us probably wish we had—a white streak in her hair. The adorable little girl is named Mayah Aziz and she gave doctors and nurses a good surprise when she was born. However, her mother Talyta wasn’t surprised at all. This genetic condition called piebaldism is very prevalent in her family and she herself has it.

Talyta started sharing Mayah’s photos and a lot of people absolutely adore their hair. They even decided to do some cosplay of characters that have the same feature, like Cruella de Vil and Rogue. Talyta hopes that Mayah will love this unique thing about herself as she learned to love it.

This is Mayah. When she was born, she had a white streak in her hair because of a condition called piebaldism

Talyta shared her story with us: “I didn’t have a very easy pregnancy! I lived in Australia with my husband for almost 5 years and was organized all year. Behold, in February 2018 I found out I was pregnant. Never imagine that at 40, you would get pregnant accidentally. Even so, we were very happy, we wanted this baby so much and we would fix it.”

“A few days after the discovery, the malaise came and it intensified to the point of not leaving home anymore, I stopped studying, working, I was hospitalized. My husband did everything at home besides working, because the bills, the visas, kept coming. I found out I had hyperemesis. It was the worst phase of my life and I couldn’t enjoy my pregnancy as I wanted. I was very sad about that. During this period, I had help from incredible friends and I always say that I didn’t have to die to see angels, I met them in life and I was grateful for that.”

“In mid-2018, we returned to Brazil. I just wanted to end my pregnancy close to my family and feel safe. On 11/20/18, after 23 hours of intense labor, I was referred for a cesarean section. I knew that my life was about to change, but not so intensely. Mayah was born at 54 cm, 4.25 kg and with the most beautiful hairstyle in the world and since that day, everything has blossomed. Still in the delivery room, I heard people saying ‘wow, she was born with lights,’ ‘what a fashion baby,’ and I kept saying: let me see, let me see. When I took that mini in my arms, everything blossomed! She was healthy, hairy, and beautiful.”

“Still in the postpartum room, Mayah received the ‘first visit.’ A member of the team approached the stretcher and asked, is she the baby with the white fringe? In the 4 days I was in the hospital, Mayah received many visits from the hospital staff. I was finding it very funny.”

But her mom, Talyta, already knew that it was a possibility Mayah would be born with this unique feature

“When I was a child, I suffered a lot of bullying because of my looks and marks on the body. I spent all my childhood and adolescence hiding behind clothes and makeup. Around my early 20s, I realized that I was unique. That it made me special.”

Because she has it too and apparently it runs in the family

“Since Mayah was born, she has carried a wave of love wherever she goes. The same characteristic that caused me pain causes tenderness. What makes me happier with all this is that she is an instrument to share love, tenderness, and that being different is cool. Many people come to me to talk about hiding until they see Mayah. That before, they had something strange, and that today, they have the same as the ‘white fringe girl.’ They even know the name, piebaldism. Mayah is growing up learning to respect people and I try to teach her to be a person of values. This is my mission as a mom.”

Mayah even started cosplaying characters that have the same feature, like Rogue from X-Men

She looks so adorable, and I love her unique hair! I started going grey at 23 and while now at 34 I have a lot of grey all throughout my naturally super dark brown hair, there’s a large chunk on the right side of my forehead at the hairline that’s solid grey like that and I love it SO much. I think it’s the coolest thing and even switched which side I part my hair on just to show it off!

Daisy Chain- not unless she starts to smile. She looks angry and uncomfortable in most of the photos. Maybe she just doesn’t like having her picture taken so often. But I agree when, she’s not scowling, she is a beauty.

She is very, very cute. However.. this mom is using her child to make money, that's it. She too young to know, she doesn't have a problem with her hair. Making it up to be about this child 'Embracing Her Uniqueness' is just bs. Sorry.

Sorry.

Adorable kid. I thought I was young when I started going grey at 19. She straight came out of the womb with a grey streak.

Oh no. That is terrible using a child for likes. Awful. Please, she is too young for that. She probably do not care.

So my best outcome from quarantine was the inability to get to my hair dresser. The roots began to show, so I now have this beautiful slice of silver in front with the rest dyed a deep violet! I am 63 and I am lovin it! I always admired those women with those streaks of silver! Thank you for sharing your daughter and yourself! Beautiful!

Thanks to mom for talking about how horrible pregnancy can be for some women! It was the worst part of my life too and it’s not often you see us admit that.

I think her white streak is beautiful, as is she. I went to high school with a girl that had this, although not as prominent. She had the most magnificent long silky, dark hair with a one inch white streak down one side. It was so cool!

Our oldest son, who will be 37 Feb 14th, has the same condition. With him you have to look a little closer to see it because he also has blond hair.

I have this, it's never been called that though. Mine is right at the front of my middle parting so depending who you speak to think it's cool, ask me if I'm a frozen princess or Rogue. I hated it as a child, now it's fashionable! It's one of the things my husband loves about me as it's unique

What a breathtaking child! I LOVE the Rogue cosplay, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the piccy. I'm hideously jealous, but at my age I could never pull that off.

I think she's precious. My best friend has this and she loves it. The only thing is that you can't color it, but some times she'll bleach out her hair to match and then she's hot platinum blond!

I was also born with a "white patch" of hair but sadly it's at the back of my head and can't been seen. This little girl is really lucky and adorable, very jealous of her white hair.

What a striking and beautiful feature to have. Looks terribly serious for her age in some of the photos but in others, her adorable smile softens her seriousness so well! Be who you are little one, you are special (and obviously very much loved)!

In the UK it’s called a mallen streak because of a world famous author who used the feature in a family she wrote about. I loved that author and am absolutely blown away by this little girls amazingly beautiful hair! I wish I was this lucky! So beautiful!
