TIL "Bosphorus" is a legitimate spelling in English. Didn't know that.
I don't think I've ever been aware of an alternative spelling - honestly had to look it up to see that the H can be left out. Presumably with that spelling the P is also a hard sound? I've only ever really heard it with a soft, F, sound, although of course that might just have been my brain interpreting it how it 'knows' it to be spelled. Wiki does tell me that "In English, the preferred spelling tends to be Bosphorus."
