The young artist Vilija Vitkute discovered her self as a true artist through bodypainting in her 20s when she first created a tribal, nature people related series called "Other Species" which changed her life completely.
She started these series in Sweden, Dalarna a little village in woods called Ulvshyttan. She first painted her self, then her friends and neighbors which led to a project to come true, after all, success in an art career, media attention, and wonderful opportunities. Her decision to live out of this art form - bodypainting.
"I felt such a strong feeling while making bodypainting and making photography, that I finally find myself in something that is great to express myself, such a happiness and joy, that I want to work with for as long as possible and be the best I can about it.
These series speak about connections to ourselves, to each other, and especially to nature, have been severed and suppressed by modern life. “Other Species” project was about modern people coming back to nature and starting ‘seeing through the native eyes’. Understanding the ‘language of nature’.
It´s colorful artistic bodypaintings made on human bodies and captured in artistic photography. I made this series in 2013/2014 when I’ve been photographing and painting the people bodies in Sweden."
Today artist Vilija works and lives out of bodypainting, films, and performances traveling around the world and sharing her colorful, inspiring bodypainting.
