In the time it takes to snap a photo, life can change in unforeseen and unimaginable ways. Andrew Ward’s life shifted abruptly when a devastating car accident by a reckless speeding driver caused him to suffer a traumatic brain injury that has seriously damaged his short term memory. However, this former NYPD detective isn’t letting a physical challenge keep him from doing what he loves: taking photographs.
Andrew’s photographs take the viewer on a poetic journey of nature and life. The images are punctuated by graceful landscapes and moments of bliss through the lens of his camera. With bodies of water as his main muse, Andrew has consistently captured these subjects with a timeless and expansive impression, utilizing the beauty of natural light to approach their intricate simplicity.
Frozen moments of beauty and tangible memories are in every shot. They give him the opportunity to create a third party memory that cannot be destroyed easily. In the blink of an eye, everything Andrew knew about himself changed. Today, he is able to look at the thousands of photographs that he has created and gets to relive experiences that would otherwise be completely forgotten.
Photography continues the journey of who Andrew is. He resides with his family in Rockland County, New York and his photographs have been exhibited throughout the tri-state area. Slowing down is not an option. In many ways, he’s just getting started.
