Do you need to go to art school to become a highly skilled artist? Does a person have to study with a master artist as a mentor to become an accomplished artist? Marius Behr is the exception to these rules. Internally driven, and emotionally charged, Marius Behr’s original abstract and mixed media paintings are simultaneously perplexing and uplifting.
Marius Behr is a self-taught painter born in Trinidad, now residing in New York. While he has been creating art in various forms throughout his life, it was not until recently that these unique and special stones inspired his artistic journey. “All I know is at some point, it just happens, and if I get lucky, I end up with something that pleases me, and hopefully others.”
His complex, abstract paintings on an unconventional stone surface with intricate and obsessive patterns are just some of the styles you will uncover when you delve into Marius’ spectrum of works. Painting for Marius is constant movement, constant change. His creative process is cathartic, allowing emotions and influences to spill out onto these stones. “There is no preconceived idea or picture in my head as to what I will put on a stone.”
See Marius Behr’s artwork at the upcoming exhibit at the Palisades Center in West Nyack, New York from February 1 through March 31st, hosted by the Arts Council of Rockland.
