Briana Williams proved that being a single mom should not get in the way of your dreams. Within a year of having a baby daughter, she managed to finish Harvard Law School and become a lawyer.

Briana admits that the final year of studies at Harvard college was more than challenging. The 24-year-old woman had to finish her final exam while in labor. “I immediately requested an epidural so that my contractions wouldn’t interfere with my Family Law grade. And, with tears in my eyes, I finished it”. At times, being a single parent has really taken its toll. “Some days I was so mentally and emotionally fatigued that I did not leave my bed,” Briana said. Sometimes she even had thoughts that she just can’t handle it. “I didn’t think I could do it.” But her daughter Evelyn became the reason she pushed herself through all the hardships and continued to be a good mother and an exemplary student. “Evelyn- they said that because of you I wouldn’t be able to do this. Just know that I did this BECAUSE OF YOU,” she wrote on Instagram.

The college graduate is the pride of her family. She is the only one of her six siblings to go to college. However, Studying at Harvard Law School seemed very intimidating for this small-town girl. “Being in such an intellectually stimulating/ rigorous environment was not only intimidating- I was scared shitless.” But Briana never gave up and later found out that her father was right all along when he encouraged her not to be afraid. “Because you got something they don’t – you’re street smart. You’re book smart, AND you’re street smart,” he told her.
