Man Moving Into A New House Finds A Dog Left Behind In The Basement, And The Dog’s Reaction Says It All
Did ever get that nagging feeling, when leaving your old house behind, that you might have forgotten something? This heartbreaking story happened in St. Louis, when the new owners moved in and discovered somebody had left behind a beautiful dog, chained up and left to die.
“I just bought a house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement,” the new owner told staff at Stray Rescue of St. Louis. “I’m not sure how long it’s been down there.”
With time of the essence, volunteers rushed to the scene to rescue the poor abandoned pup, who could not be happier to see them. “When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail,” Natalie Thomson, the group’s communications director, told The Dodo. “She was nearly choking herself as she was so excited to see us. When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”
So who are these heartless people, who chose to leave a life behind, all alone and unable to fight for its survival? Turns out a squatter had been occupying the property, and had left behind a load of garbage and other stuff, as well as the dog. Nobody knows who the squatter was, or why they chose to leave behind such a precious pup. Clearly though, she wouldn’t have survived much longer without being found as there was no food or water bowl for her.
Her exuberant personality and the sheer joy she showed at being rescued earned her the name ‘Jumping Bean.’ For a dog that has gone through the traumatic experience of being abandoned and left to die, Jumping Bean has a remarkable spirit. “Her personality is completely adorable,” Thomson said. “She loves everyone she meets and craves attention. She makes sure she is not ignored! She’s an energetic and very affectionate pup! She is so happy all the time.”

Here’s how people reacted
I think she wasn't there for a long time (don't get me wrong, even for 5 minutes - IT'S TOO LONG!). What I meant, maybe that squatter left her there on purpose - maybe he knew that someone will find her in no time, because he couldn't take care of her anymore. Damn, maybe even he was watching how was she discovered. I think that because she doesn't look skinny at all. Maybe I have too much hope for humans, I don't know.
*for humanity I meant
The dog ( jumpingBean )is healthy.. I've followed abuse & neglect of animal for too long . raised on a cattle farm with other livestock , horses etc. .. I have 5 rescue dogs . she has had some of her basic needs met .. Probably not emotional . I wish they would check her for a chip . the homeless Person or whomever may have stolen her for his self serving purpose , protection,(security alarm ) a companion or had planned to sell her on the street for fighting etc. .there are so many twisted agendas among messed up people ..it may had been too risky for him to go back in .. AND THERE IS THE BEST SCENARIO : HE LOVED HER ENOUGH TO LET HER GO , KNOWING HE WAS GIVEN HER THE BEST ODDS : RESCUE & FREEDOM .. IM UP VOTING YOUR. 'DANCING TO MYSELF 'S POST !!! GOOD CALL!!! KUDOS !
@Melinda, thank you. I hope that was it. Oh, and I'm not able to watch videos on BP (Android phone).
If you look at the GIF her ribs are VERY visible.
As a former pit bull owner (RIP my sweet boy!) she doesn't look extremely thin to me. There should be sort of a dip after the ribs. She's thin, mind you, and definitely needs to be fattened up some, but she's not scary thin. (Thank goodness they found her when they did!) Anyway, I googled around to find some well bred (NOT grossly oversized like you see so much of these days) UKC champion pit bulls to compare. If you scroll down to CH'PR' SE7EN'S TYCOON TANK, you can see he has a similar shape to Jumping Bean and he's very healthy. http://www.nevadakennels.com/APBTmales.html
Her ribs aren’t that bad. She’s fit
So after looking through the article, readin the replies, and looking at my pit, she did look normal, just a little bit thin. :) Also, this is my pitbull (Gamora) The dog in the back is Starlord:) cutsiepie-...1022c9.png
If you watch the video, the rescuers say that she's been down there for quite some time by all the poop on the floor. She doesn't look too skinny, but it's hard to tell with all her wiggling. She does look a bit like she hasn't been fed well, and I bet she was very thirsty! (No water or food was left for her.) I've met some homeless people who have dogs; they care more about the dog than themselves and would have taken her with them, not left her on a short chain in a basement. I doubt the "squatter" cared as much. However, I'm glad that she's in good hands with a rescue group!
The squatter may have been there when the new owner showed up, and did not have time to retrieve his/her dog without getting themselves caught and in trouble...probably missing that animal!
I was thinking the same thing, it looks like a squater got scared away and left the poor puppy. I hate to think that someone is missing their dog right now, but at least she has a more stable home.
Agreed. Not to say that it's not sad and that it couldn't have been much worse but we don't know why she got left behind. It likely wasn't intentional.
No I think you're right she didn't seem malnourished but again leaving a pupper tied in a basement is just messed up. I like to think people are generally good so to self sooth I'm gonna say she was left there for a few hours maybe and it was intentional because the squatter knew they couldn't properly care for her so they made sure she was found. I'm just glad she's ok and still a sweet heart
I like how you think, honey.

Man! My family were poor asf but we're rich enough to feed three dogs. Having dog doesn't mean spending hundred dollars.
I would love to think so, but I think this happens more often than we realize. A co-worker got his dog the same way. Someone bought a new house and there was a dog in it that had been left behind. People suck.
Many years ago our neighbors moved out and left their basset hound chained in the back yard. I just happened to see them ready to pull out and went and asked them what they were going to do about Collins. They just said, "you can have him if you want." We DID want, and he was a wonderful dog to us for over 10 years.
Maybe?? Nahhhhh...i think the idiot who left the dog there should be prosecuted..he or she should not left the poor dog behind in the first place..right?
if only more humans had the unconditional love that dogs seem to have.
Sometimes I think we just really don't deserve dogs.
I often think the same thing. You probably need to have a dog and love it to understand what an incredibly gift dogs are to us humans. The amount of happiness I get just from having a dog is indescribable. If I feel sad or upset, all I need to do is bury my face in my dogs fur and, immediately, I feel better.Yes, tehy are work and cost money, but the give SO MUCH back to us. <3
Well said, Apollo. Well said.
I just want to say thank you for saving her.
