My 15 Year Old Son Already Has An Impressive Journalist Resume, Starting From When He Was 5.
My son, Caden, decided he wanted to be a sports broadcaster when he was 5 years old. His life plan was to play baseball in college, then professionally, then retire and be a broadcaster and then own a car dealership. His love of sports started at a very young age and grows deeper each year.
This was before Instagram and the ability to message videos directly on your phone. So we started uploading videos to YouTube of him reading scores in the newspaper or pretending to broadcast Angel games with the audio on our tv turned down. We would share them with our family. Then one day we had the idea for him to interview someone we knew in sports.
Now Caden’s YouTube, CadenCenter, has had guests like Mike Trout from the Angels, Fred Roggin from
NBC, the cast of the movie Uncle Drew, Ernie Johnson and so many more. Caden has been a guest reporter on Angels Weekly on Fox Sports West, the LA Rams website and his story was featured on Nickelodeon’s All In with Cam Newton. He has cohosted the local school districts talent show, as well as the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital Gala. Caden has been a guest radio broadcaster for both the Inland Empire 66ers baseball team, as well as the Ontario Fury. He was an in game host at the Ontario Reign “cool school” hockey game. He has been featured on NBC and KTLA, as well as in local newspapers. A few years ago Caden also started writing his own column in the Inland Empire Community Newspapers.
Caden eventually started playing basketball instead of baseball but still loves and enjoys all sports. His plan is to still attend college, then go into broadcasting or have his own show.
Before the pandemic hit this year, we had plans to visit the set of Inside the NBA in Atlanta, and have a behind the scenes tour of Good Morning America.
While disappointed these didn’t work out, we know there will be more opportunities in 2021!
