Uhhh this pandemic is proof we shouldn't shame people for calling in sick or with a sniffle. People should rest when they are sick. Life's too short to compromise health for work. The problem is people can't afford to take a break and the irony is it makes them worse workers not better
The problem is the people calling in that aren't actually sick. I'm all for someone staying home sick. It's when I see them post the photos at the park on the beautiful sunny day that ticks me off!
I used to get "sick" a lot. I often wondered if I was a "hypochondriac lite" (stayed home and took care when I felt sick). With the pandemic, I have learned I have a shtty immune system. Since I have been VERY careful about germs - I have not been sick for over a year.
@Joonscrab. So book the day off so that they can bring in a replacement, and your co workers aren't left short. Then go enjoy your day in the park. I work 48 hrs a week for 1/2 the pay I did as a plumber and I don't get paid sick days either!
Sami: these days genz have to CONSTANTLY work work work to pay bills, with very less pay , and they probably don't get vacations either. Them having one free day shouldn't bother you this much. They deserve to live too. What is even their life if they work all week and rest on weekends for years ://
Seriously. The more developed nations (not America) actually offer decent sick leave and their workers tend to be more productive because they aren't running themselves ragged. Furthermore, if it's something like a bad cold or strep throat, it ends up infecting the currently healthy people and then now they have to call out sick. So it's better if the sick person just stays home whenever possible.
The problem is people who aren't sick calling in "sick". My roommate for example misses one to two shifts a week! She on probation now and will probably be terminated. She's been with the company for 18 years and just feels that at 40 she shouldn't have to work so hard anymore. I say it's time for her to try something new and not leave her staff so short handed. In our job it's very hard on the rest of the staff because the more hands to help the better.

Yes, but don't you think it's our generation (I'm roughly your age) who just allowed employers to do what they please and never complained? For example, I took one sick day in the 14 years I've been with my current employer - not because I'm never sick but rather because I have this idiotic sense of duty that makes me come in to work even when I feel terrible. I think it's the 'kids' who have it right, not us.
Damn those are stupid things to think or say.
My friends and I have great conversations about what are good appliances, and how exciting said good appliances are. Particularly good vacuum cleaners, a good vacuum is amazing.
I just had this conversation with some friends of mine from high school. The head cheerleader was asking the cool goth girl of our group what she thought about the new Dyson and I'm chirping about how nothing can beat my 10 year old Kirby that weighs as much as my first car.
My mom had one of those Kirbys! It was made of real metal, and weighed as much as yours-we called it "The Dinosaur" LOL!! The thing was as old as the dirt it sucked up, and hard as hell to push over deep pile carpets. But man, it it clean-and it ran for DECADES!! 😂😂😂😂
Lol! I have a steel tellus vacuum it has outlived everything and can still lift the carpet slightly as it vacuums, it's just so unkillable :)
It hasn't met my hair. Apparently I shed copious amounts without going bald. And it's long like half way down my back. Lol.
