This is Bailey, he is my best friend, but he is also a prime example of the effects of dog abuse.

Sure, he looks great, healthy and happy! Not a day over 8! But I don’t mean physical damage, I mean mental damage.

He was born a cute lil’ fluff (I assume) and he must have been playful. But poor little Bailey probably had the worst luck in the litter, at the beginning anyways.

He was purchased by at least two men, we assume one is an Asian man and the other Caucasian (you’ll understand why later on). But the men who adopted him were not fit to have the dog. Nobody ever played with him so he grew up not even knowing what it was like to play; and we don’t think he was socialized either. But the problems didn’t end there, unfortunately little Bailey was severely abused. He had been hit on the head and we assume with various items. That went on for a long time and unfortunately, Bailey was hurt physically and mentally.

An animal rescue came and took him away from the home after finding out and after that he spent over a year in the shelter, however, in that time he became a proud father of some Chihuahua mixes. After his pups got older he was finally adopted, by us of course. We only have an estimation of his age so we figure he’s around 8 at the moment. When we adopted him he was about 5. He seemed like a happy dog on the outside but his mental damage was still there. For the first year we had him he was horrified of Caucasian and Asian men, he actually bit one man’s ankle out of fear. But it was just men, only Caucasian men and Asian men. Fortunately he gained more confidence around men and was less afraid. But he is still aggressive towards most dogs, which is why we think he wasn’t well socialized. Also, he refuses to play, he doesn’t understand that you want to play with him if you throw a ball, instead of chasing after the ball he runs and hides, fearing you’re going to throw it at his head. All those problems could have been avoided if he had been sent to a caring home, he could be a friendly playful dog who never had extreme fears of certain people.

However, his life still turned out good in the end, he’s now a happy and healthy dog (aside from the mental effects of his early years) and might I add that he is a very pampered pup too! Plus, he is now a grandfather, even if he doesn’t know it!

To be honest I’m surprised I got such a good shot of him here
