30 Pics That Point Out What’s Wrong With Our Society, As Shared On This X Page
In a world where tragedy strikes every day, many of us like to take a break from the madness and retreat to our cozy safe spaces. For some, it’s TV shows or movies, while others love to delve into books. People also like to escape into social medias and other quiet internet corners filled with memes and cats, and there’s nothing wrong with that. We all need our time to recoup.
Yet, it’s important not to forget the realities of our world. If we run away from them, we won’t solve anything.
Maybe that’s why Meaning In Pictures is such a popular X page. People want to be reminded of modern-day issues through not-so-funny gag cartoons. They explore the extensive use of phones, war, or the global climate crisis with clever insight. Scroll down to see them all.

Nah Advertisements started this trend a long time ago. they don't even use real food in most food commercials.
Change that to totally rotten on the inside and you are so much closer.
Whereas cats are so secure we can even wash our butts on camera. *proves it*
Single-panel or gag cartoons are a fascinating medium. They hold a lot of meaning in a very tiny space. Their ingeniousness lies in their snappiness and ability to capture the essence of a problem and make it somewhat humorous in a single image accompanied by text.
The interplay between text and image is what really makes this art form stand out. The two have to work together to deliver the intended message. In fact, the perfect cartoon is considered to be one in which the picture doesn’t make sense without the text and vise versa. It’s all about their relationship.
This surely is what’s right about our society? good parenting and longevity of trees 🌲
I assumed that the son, who is now pushing his own son in a swing in the tree they planted together, is saying “Thanks Dad” to his father……in Heaven
They make oxygen, shade, and homes for animals. They also keep topsoil in place. They seem pretty important to me.

It's been getting less like that now. In a war, if soldiers killed are a drop in the ocean against World War 1 figures, it can be a scandal today. And I should think so too, with technology these days.
Why are we sending our youth to be injured or killed for the powers that were?. WAKE UP PEOPLE
The history of cartoons is quite interesting. See, while humans have been drawing for millennia, the roots of a single-panel cartoon begin somewhere in the 18th century. That is when caricaturists, satirists, and other artists started publishing various vignettes in humor magazines and single-sheet publications.
Back then, of course, they weren’t called cartoons. The word described the drawings that fresco and tapestry painters would make on a piece of cardboard before putting it on cloth or walls. In time, it evolved to describe preliminary drawings in general and in the 1840s, it was first used to describe a funny image published in a paper.
That is an incredibly apt observation! Plus, privilege means that the wall itself is not as high for some, an additional facet of the "lots of resources DO make life much easier" point.

Just waiting for him to get a little more proficient for shared books. Still reading to him/encouraging him to read for fun. Also audiobooks, and closed captions!
Load More Replies...Not necessary true. None of my family reads when I was a child. I was an avid reader since I was 7 yo.i literally eat the books.
Load More Replies...Read a book with them. I have never met a person that could read, that doesn't like it. Teach your children to read folks.
In my life experience, it’s the peopler who have read a lot of books who are the most intelligent, and have a vast vocabulary.
My little great niece just inherited all that's left of my childhood books (about twenty). It pains me that I didn't get to witness the exchange, but I was told she was So Excited. It gives me hope. When she outgrows them, they'll be passed on to my partner's (three years younger) nephew. Books are freaking rad!
"Many of these trees were my friends. Creatures I had known from nut and acorn. They had voices of their own."
The paper was a British magazine called “Punch” and on July 15, 1843, it published five satirical drawings about the government called “Mr. Punch's cartoons.” Over time, it spread to other countries and branched out in two major directions: political and gag cartoons.
Very true! I was abused, and I vowed to never ever perpetuate that behavior onto my loved ones.

Not excuse, just that it's to common? Could it also be an eye opener to some why they are the way they are, and why they also need to stop/change/get help etc? (not my downvote)

The pain I experienced made me never want to harm another. Never want anyone to feel the way I was made to feel.
It takes one to break the cycle of abuse, it's no use to hit a child over spilt milk.
Oh I don't vote ... What do you mean abortion isn't a protected right anymore? How could that be?
If you seriously still think voting changes anything… the system is just not working, it’s full of the same kinds of people and parties that just exchange seats and don’t care about people, it’s all circus, it’s all a show. They give society scraps to fight and vote for while major decisions are never ever in our hands. It’s all pretend, illusion that we have any type of power over their decisions. There’s no way to vote to seriously change anything.

It's closer to the truth than you think, we must make sure it doesn't happen
The political cartoons were focused on poking fun at current day events and were the more popular of the two. They were used as covers of magazines and sometimes even sat proudly in centerspreads. The gag cartoons were more modest; just funny pictures that accompanied funny text. They didn’t depend on one another and usually hid themselves amongst other light-hearted stuff.
Trees are life. 🌳 "When great trees fall in forests, small things recoil into silence, their senses eroded beyond fear. " Maya Angelou
This reminds me of Outsourced. An American manager moved to Calcutta to run the call center. His second is verbally abusive to the staff, particularly a woman of lower caste. The second and the lower class employee both had family emergencies at the same time, and were sleeping in the office. The second's situation resolved first. The woman wouldn't be able to get back in the building to sleep. As she was leaving, he demanded she read the handbook. She found a key for the building in it, so she'd have a safe place to sleep.
I pray every night that Elon Musk will decide to go to Mars by himself.
I love outer space. I love the idea of terraforming Mars. I love the idea of finding ways to go farther. But while we're cooperating to "fix" other planets, couldn't we cooperate to fix the damage we've done to this one?
It was not until 1920 that the modern gag cartoon found its footing. That is when cartoonists started to use different methods such as visual puns to connect pictures to the words under the image. The joke was then not in the picture nor in the text, but in the connection between them. The reader had to ponder how they work together to get a giggle, which makes a greater impact.
I see this imagery differently. To me it seems to be more... 'step back from everyone else and save yourself'.
So it's preventing the other matches to reach their potential, to do the job they were literally created to do.
That was going to be my comment. YOUNG children.

I like how the slaves--i mean the workers-- are wearing clothes from several different areas. Sweat shops are all over.
Over the next few years, the art of cartooning flourished, with the stars of Peter Arno and Harold Ross shinning the brightest. For three decades, from around 1930 to 1960, the medium experienced its golden days. Major weekly magazines were publishing from 200 to 400 cartoons a month. Some of them were printed in color and took up a whole page. The cartoons found their place on mugs and cocktail napkins. Everyone loved cartoons.
My dad is on Hospice, and my mom is getting more and more feeble. I live two hours away, and even if I were there, I wouldn't be physically capable of helping. It doesn't stop me from worrying, though. Even when I'm at my worst, depression-wise, I know I can't leave. If nothing else, I'm her daughter, and even though I can't do anything for her, her knowledge that I'm there and safe helps her. I won't take that away.

I agree. It never should be the only reason. But as someone who cared for her FIL, MIL and now mother, it's part of being family.

My dad needed more and more help with things around the house as he got older and it caused a little bit of resentment in me. He passed away a month ago, and I'd give almost anything to be able to help him at least one last time. I miss you dad.
This family took in the father's mother. The old woman was physically incapable of eating nicely. She was messy, took too long, and not a pretty sight. So the wife gave her a wooden bowl and made her eat in the kitchen, rather than in the dining room with the family. After the old woman died, the wife threw away everything that was her MIL's, including the wooden bowl. Later, she was surprised to see the bowl back in the cabinet, and mentioned it at the dinner table. The little boy said, "I saved it." His mother asked why. "So I'll have it when you get old." No matter how old, or sick, even if they're bed-ridden and no longer remember who they are, they are still people.
Yup. My kids have been trying to put me in a home since they were 6 and 8.
Clearly the pproblem here is the neck. If he would turn it slightly to the left or right before mounting the ladder, then there would be no problem
The man is the head of the house, but the woman is the neck. And she can move the head any way she wants.
Oh God i Miss my mum so much, cancer defeated her 2 years ago....f**k cancer

You can honor her spirit now by your actions today. You were "there" for your grandmother in your heart and soul. You would not have written your post or be feeling bad about her passing if you weren't there and your souls connected. You know this and your grandma does too.
Load More Replies...But, of course, as the interest in weekly magazines declined in the '60s, so did the mass interest in cartoons. Soon, they found themselves in niche publications, where loyal audiences still appreciated their unique combination of visual art and text.
This is one of the reasons why my wife (of 25 years) and I did not want children ... and the world today is sadly all the validation that we need.
I fear I may be a parent that painted a pretty rosie world for my son as he was growing up -then for him to become aware as he grew older some of the harsh realities. I'm sorry Adam I didn't have the heart to tell you. It's not so bad, he says, that he understands why and this is my blessing.

Knowledge also helps a ton! If one is not aware that momma lions carry their young by the scruff, either image is one of "Oh no! That poor cub!"
Anyone who has been to a zoo, seen a nature documentary or owned a dog or cat that has had puppies or kittens while living with the humans (for example a barn cat that lived on a farm) would know that that is how the adult animal carries its young. Plenty of mammal species carry their young like that. I kind of thought this was common knowledge.
Load More Replies...This applies to your point-of-view or how you formed you opinion, NOT to the truth itself. I state this because people have drastically confused their opinion with the truth: "my truth is..." No, your OPINION or POINT-OF-VIEW is, not the truth. There is only one truth. It's impossible in the universe we occupy for historic events to happen in different ways. There's one way it actually happened, but there can be multiple view points/perspectives on what was seen and how it was seen.
Also applies to not looking close enough. Experts used to thinking mother crocodiles were eating their young, when in reality, they were scooping them up in their mouths and carrying them to the water from the nest.

This list is another piece of proof that people are still interested in the snappy messages presented in single-panel comics. And while these aren’t funny, they’re still proving to be relevant.
This trope is too often hijacked by fools. Musk, Bankman-Fried, and so many others. Just because something is new, it isn't automatically an advancement for humanity. I take this to be speaking to indoctrination. The child at center is a small but true version of itself. The parent and all other children have been whittled into one of the same via indoctrination. Or, to take indoctrination out of the picture, simply starting life as true individual only to become one of the same through time.

It's not raining in the picture. If anything, someone has watered the tree from the puddle below. The umbrella is providing protection from too much hot sun, which isn't good for young plants as it can burn their leaves and can kill them eventually. The tree then returns the favor by protecting the man.
Load More Replies...This is stupid. If you're lost somewhere, staying put and making signs that you're there are the smartest things you can do.
So from left to right: The first man loves writing, the second man is powered by rain and thunder, the third has an armadillo curled up on his head, the fourth has a flower on his head and is on his way to the doctor to get rid of it, the woman does balance exercises with her baby and we don't kink shame the fifth man.
On my mind; that big guy already had plant his tree when he was young, and when he grown up, the tree grown big too and he can take his tree/log....OR he simply cut down tree for himself without plant anything
Is this one about old vs. young? Older, bigger, slower, with more "tools" vs. younger, smaller, faster, with more hope/determination/fresh life?
This is inverted by the UK. It was one of the first to acquire and dispense the Covid vaccine to everyone, yet nutjobs like Labour boss Jeremy Corbyn could only whine about how the country was 'vaccine nationalist' by doing it so rapidly.
In the end, it didn't matter near as much as was shoved down our throats and in our faces.
