The pride in Indian culture is woven in customs, traditions and the very fabric of the Indian wear. Traditional women garbs are distinct and identifiable even from a distance. Though clothing in India can vary from region to region, saris, shalwar kameez and lehengas (usually reserved for the middle-upper class), are the most common and recognizable for Indian women to wear. These all lend a very ethnic look designed in mind using the best fabrics from around the world. One cannot help but admire an Indian woman fully dressed in her traditional wear so full of color, detail, and adornments.

Our Indian mom-to-be certainly wears these outfits with pride and distinction for her maternity shoot. The modern Indian woman is embracing her culture and woman identity while still staying true to age-old traditions. She is sharing with the world the beauty that is not on the inside only but also the colorful beauty on the outside.

The cultural maternity series is a project started by four creative women. Our team consists of a photographer, a makeup artist, a hairstylist, and a designer. Together, we research, plan and put our own spin on the culture we are inspired by. It is about women's empowerment, embracing the culture where they come from and showing off the beautiful journey a mom’s body goes through before having her child.
